A randomized controlled trial of pre-procedure simethicone and N-acetylcysteine to improve mucosal visibility during gastroscopy – NICEVIS

open access: yesEndoscopy International Open, 2016
Background and study aims: Mucosal views can be impaired by residual bubbles and mucus during gastroscopy. This study aimed to determine whether a pre-gastroscopy drink containing simethicone and N-acetylcysteine improves mucosal visualisation.

Adaptive Observer for Coupled Wave PDE and Infinite ODE With Sampled Data and Unknown Input: Application to Brain Hemodynamics Estimation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
This article proposes a convergent adaptive observer for a damped wave PDE and an infinite‐dimensional ODE coupled in cascade using sampled‐in‐space ODE state measurements. The proposed observer estimates the distributed states of the PDE and ODE along with unknown PDE parameters and spatial input.

Ceftolozane-tazobactam in combination with fosfomycin for treatment of MDR/XDR P. aeruginosa infective endocarditis

open access: yesClinical Infection in Practice, 2019
Background: Infective endocarditis (IE) due to multi-drug (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) Pseudomonas aeruginosa is rare. MDR P. aeruginosa infections are increasingly reported worldwide, and the choice of effective antimicrobials is limited ...

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Robust Spot Melting by 3D Spot Arrangements in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work proposes an approach to replace separately melted contours for spot melting in electron beam powder fusion. Adapting the spot arrangements close to the contour combined with stacking yields a comparable surface quality without the inherent challenges of separate contours, as demonstrated, by electron optical images and roughness measurements.

Incarcerated Stomach in a Parastomal Hernia

open access: yesThe Annals of African Surgery, 2020
Parastomal hernia is a rare cause of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. We present a case of an 82-year-old lady who presented with a one-month history of abdominal pain associated with coffee ground vomiting and intermittent melena.

Enhancing Data Integration with Text Analysis to Find Proteins Implicated in Plant Stress Response

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Bioinformatics, 2010
High throughput genomic studies can identify large numbers of potential candidate genes, which must be interpreted and filtered by investigators to select the best ones for further analysis. Prioritization is generally based on evidence that supports the

Swelling‐Induced Stress‐Assisted Transfer of Nanodiamond Arrays With a PVA Carrier Tape for Conformal Bio‐Integrated Sensing and Labelling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a swelling‐induced, stress‐assisted water‐soluble PVA tape strategy to transfer‐print nanodiamond quantum‐sensor arrays onto soft, curved biological interfaces. The room‐temperature, water‐triggered process achieves >98% fidelity and residue‐free integration, enabling conformal quantum sensing on contact lenses, neural probes, and ...
