An h-Adaptive Poly-Sinc-Based Local Discontinuous Galerkin Method for Elliptic Partial Differential Equations

open access: yesAxioms, 2023
For the purpose of solving elliptic partial differential equations, we suggest a new approach using an h-adaptive local discontinuous Galerkin approximation based on Sinc points.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

On Lebesgue-type inequalities for greedy approximation

open access: yesJournal of Approximation Theory, 2007
Lebesgue proved an inequality that relates the error of a particular method of approximation by the trigonometric polynomials of order n to the best possible error of approximation by the trigonometric polynomials of order n. In the case of approximation with regard to bases, the Lebesgue-type inequalities are known both in linear and in nonlinear ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Greedy Kernel Methods for Approximating Breakthrough Curves for Reactive Flow from 3D Porous Geometry Data

open access: yesMathematics
We address the challenging application of 3D pore scale reactive flow under varying geometry parameters. The task is to predict time-dependent integral quantities, i.e., breakthrough curves, from the given geometries.

Local RBF approximation for scattered data fitting with bivariate splines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In this paper we continue our earlier research [4] aimed at developing effcient methods of local approximation suitable for the first stage of a spline based two-stage scattered data fitting algorithm.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.
