Cotton facilitates long‐distance seed dispersal by functioning as nest material for birds

open access: yesOikos, Volume 2026, Issue 7, July 2026.
Cotton (Cossypium) fibres, which grow naturally in bolls around the seeds of cotton plants, have been used for centuries to produce fabric. The presumed natural function of cotton is that these lightweight and fluffy fibres may support wind dispersal of the seeds inside.

Storage of Green Asparagus Packaged in Plastic Films.

open access: yesjournal of the japanese society for cold preservation of food, 1992

Three closely linked X‐chromosomal genes potentially control sex determination in Cannabis sativa

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 251, Issue 1, Page 505-522, July 2026.
Summary Sex determination mechanisms in dioecious plants remain poorly understood yet offer an excellent model system to study genetic changes underlying morphological evolution. We investigated the genetic basis of sex determination in Cannabis sativa, combining quantitative trait locus mapping in a segregating population, comparative transcriptomics ...

Antioxidant activity of green and white asparagus (Asparagus officinalis) extracts grown in Korea

open access: yesFood Science and Preservation
This study analyzed the physiological activity and bioactive substances in 65°C hot water and 70% ethanol extracts of green and white asparagus grown in Gangwon Province, which accounts for half of Korea’s asparagus production. The hot water and 70% ethanol extracts of green asparagus (termed WEGA and EEGA, respectively) and white asparagus (termed ...
