General transport properties of superconducting quantum point contacts: a Green functions approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We discuss the general transport properties of superconducting quantum point contacts. We show how these properties can be obtained from a microscopic model using nonequilibrium Green function techniques.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Decision-Based Demosaicking Algorithm Using Bayesian Theorem

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
In this paper, we introduce a new color filter array interpolation based on edge map prediction using the Bayesian theorem. The edge information obtained at the position of the green component sampled in the quincunx grid using the Bayer pattern is used ...

Universal low-temperature crossover in two-channel Kondo models

open access: yes, 2012
An exact expression is derived for the electron Green function in two-channel Kondo models with one and two impurities, describing the crossover from non-Fermi liquid (NFL) behavior at intermediate temperatures to standard Fermi liquid (FL) physics at ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Enhanced shot noise in carbon nanotube field-effect transistors

open access: yes, 2009
We predict shot noise enhancement in defect-free carbon nanotube field-effect transistors through a numerical investigation based on the self-consistent solution of the Poisson and Schrodinger equations within the non-equilibrium Green functions ...

Growth of Hybrid Sunfishes and Channel Catfish at Low Temperatures [PDF]

open access: yes, 1975
The growth of hybrid sunfish (male bluegill, Lepomis macrochirus x female green sunfish, L. cyanellus) and channel catfish (Ictalurus puncrates) below 15 C was determined in ponds on natural food and in cages on artificial feed. In all cases, the hybrids

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Asymmetric color image encryption and compression based on discrete cosine transform in Fresnel domain

open access: yesResults in Optics, 2020
In this paper, a new asymmetric method is presented to encrypt and compress color images using discrete cosine transform in Fresnel domain. First, the input color image is decomposed into three channels: red, green and blue.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
