Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

An epithelial GPR35 isoform supports tumor‐associated transcriptional and metabolic phenotypes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
GPR35 generates two functionally distinct isoforms with previously unresolved roles. GPR35‐short mediates immune‐cell chemotaxis, while GPR35‐long is enriched in colorectal cancer epithelium, where it supports increased metabolism, proliferation, and tumor‐associated transcriptional programs.

Construction of machine learning model driven by attention mechanism for AnMBR membrane fouling prediction

open access: yesGongye shui chuli
Anaerobic membrane bioreactor(AnMBR) is a very effective wastewater resource treatment process, while membrane fouling can lead to the increase of transmembrane pressure(TMP), affecting operational performance and membrane life. A machine learning model (

Transformation towards sustainable green infrastructure systems in Egyptian villages (a case study of Fayoum villages) [PDF]

open access: yesJES: Journal of Engineering Sciences
The importance of the rural community is shaped in Egypt, where more than 57.8% of the population lives. The Egyptian village is the smallest urban environmental unit that has social, cultural and political characteristics different from the city and has

The effects of urban development and current green infrastructure policy on future climate change resilience

open access: yesEcology and Society, 2020
Governments around the world are beginning to plan for the effects of climate change. In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, the city is implementing a variety of green infrastructure practices through the program Green Cities, Clean Waters to meet state ...

ELM-AdaBoost-Based Recognition of Risky Driving Behavior

open access: yesSensors
The classification of risky driving behaviors is a key aspect of improving road traffic safety management. A major challenge in this field is that fixed empirical thresholds cannot adequately reflect the operational characteristics of specific vehicle ...

Tumor B‐cell infiltration in platinum‐treated advanced muscle‐invasive urothelial carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Bladder tumors with higher pretreatment memory B‐cell infiltration were linked to longer survival after cisplatin chemotherapy, but not carboplatin. These tumors also showed more organized immune structures (tertiary lymphoid structures) and a shared pro‐inflammatory B‐cell‐rich community, suggesting that memory B cells may help identify patients most ...

Nitrogen-Doped Calcite Derived from Ca-MOFs as an Efficient Adsorbent for Sr(II) Removal from Water: The Role of Nitrogen and Calcium

open access: yesClean Technologies
Strontium (90Sr) is a typical radionuclide, which can act as a contaminant and poses a big problem for the eco-environment if left untreated. In this study, an original nitrogen-doped calcite (N-CaCO3) was synthesized using a solvothermal and calcination

Single‐cell DNA methylation profiling: Technologies, computation, and applications in precision oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single‐cell DNA methylation (scDNAme) profiling maps epimutational clonal evolution, revealing mechanisms of malignancy and therapeutic resistance across diverse cancer types. By providing a high‐resolution landscape of intratumoral heterogeneity, these technologies empower precise patient stratification, guide the development of enhanced ...
