Bismuth Trioxide Modified Carbon Nanotubes as Negative Electrode Catalysts for all Vanadium Redox Flow Batteries

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2020
Bismuth trioxide modified carbon nanotubes (Bi2O3/CNTs) composite was fabricated by liquid phase deposition-calcinating method and used as electrocatalyst for V2+/V3+ redox couple of all vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFBs).

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Green synthesis of polymeric membranes: recent advances and future prospects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Polymeric membranes are widely used in gas separations, liquid separations, and other processes such as fuel cells. However, methods and processes for manufacturing these membranes are usually harmful to the environment and/or human health. Although many

Crystal structure of catena-poly[[diaquacadmium(II)]-μ-3,3′-(1,3-phenylene)diacrylato]

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E: Crystallographic Communications, 2015
In the crystal of the title polymeric complex, [Cd(C12H8O4)(H2O)2]n, the CdII cation, located on a twofold rotation axis, is coordinated by two water molecules and chelated by two phenylenediacrylate anions (mpda) in a distorted octahedral geometry.

Sweet Selenium: Synthesis and Properties of Selenium-Containing Sugars and Derivatives

open access: yesPharmaceuticals, 2020
In the last decades, organoselenium compounds gained interest due to their important biological features. However, the lack of solubility, which characterizes most of them, makes their actual clinical exploitability a hard to reach goal.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.
