Evolutionary variations of solar luminosity [PDF]

open access: yes
The Theoretical arguments for a 30% increase in the solar luminosity over the past 4.7 billion years are reviewed. A scaling argument shows that this increase can be predicted without detailed numerical calculations.

Auditory–Tactile Congruence for Synthesis of Adaptive Pain Expressions in RoboPatients

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
In this work, we explore auditory–tactile congruence for synthesizing adaptive vocal pain expressions in robopatients. Using a robopatient platform that integrates vocal pain sounds with palpation forces, we conducted 7680 trials across 20 participants.

Infrared observations of small solar-system bodies [PDF]

open access: yes
A major accomplishment during last year is the recongition of and modeling of the solid-state greenhouse effect for icy satellites. Recent observations of eclipse reappearances suggest that this effect may in fact be observed on Europa and Ganymede. Also

Divergent Responses of Bacterial Communities to Permafrost Degradation and Their Associations With Carbon Across Vertical Profiles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bacterial α‐diversity decreases, but stochasticity and community stability increase across the 15 m‐depth vertical profiles and along the degraded gradient within the active layer. The abundance and interaction of core taxa mainly control community stability in the active and permafrost layers, respectively.

Tri–Band and Dual–Response Smart Windows With Asymmetric Mid–Infrared Emissivity for Year–Round Energy Conservation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Our promising smart window exhibits exceptional optical properties, enabling the indoor temperature reduction of 12°C during summer and delivering the annual energy savings of 14.2%–24.4% across mid–to–low latitudes. ABSTRACT Building energy consumption accounts for 20%–40% of global energy usage, with windows among the least energy–efficient ...
