Battery Degradation Reduction in Flywheel–Battery Hybrid Energy Storage Using SSA‐Optimized Fuzzy‐PI Control

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
SSA‐optimized fuzzy‐PI control reduces battery stress in flywheel–battery hybrid energy storage systems by shifting transient power fluctuations to the flywheel. The strategy decreases ampere‐hour throughput by 46.1% and rainflow damage by 71% while maintaining stable DC‐bus regulation.

Maze Puzzle Pattern‐Based Static Reconfiguration of Photovoltaic Arrays for Enhanced Shade Dispersion and Power Generation Under Partial Shading Conditions

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
A new maze puzzle pattern array (PPA) is presented to optimize shade allocation, alleviate the mismatch losses of PV (photovoltaic) arrays in partially shaded circumstances, and maximize output in partially shaded operation with zero extra sensors, switching components, and optimum searching schemes.

Development of a Zebrafish Embryo‐Based Test System for Thyroid Hormone System Disruption: 3Rs in Ecotoxicological Research

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology and Chemistry, EarlyView.
Abstract There is increasing concern regarding pollutants disrupting the vertebrate thyroid hormone (TH) system, which is crucial for development. Thus, identification of TH system–disrupting chemicals (THSDCs) is an important requirement in the Organisation for Economic Co‐operation and Development (OECD) testing framework.

Intelligent diagnosis‐related group classification for 134,189 patients in eastern China using machine learning

open access: yesJournal of Intelligent Medicine, EarlyView.
Intelligent DRG Classification with ELGWO‐LightGBM. Abstract Diagnosis‐related group (DRG) classification is crucial for healthcare cost management and resource allocation, but traditional manual classification by physicians is inefficient and error‐prone, especially for large‐scale medical data.

Improved Alpha-Guided Grey Wolf Optimizer [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Grey wolf optimizer (GWO) is a new meta-heuristic swarm intelligence algorithm, which has shown promising performance in solving optimization problems. In order to improve the convergence speed of GWO, an alpha-guided GWO (AgGWO), in which the evolving process of the population is guided by the update direction of alpha (best solution), is proposed ...

Where opportunity meets desire: Predicting antlerless deer harvest selectivity during Wisconsin's nine‐day firearm season

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
We predicted Wisconsin deer hunters’ likelihood to take an available antlerless deer harvest opportunity on a given day of the 9‐day firearm season using a combination of personal characteristics of the hunter and situational factors of the hunting day.

Burrow use by Saharan striped polecat (Poecilictis libyca) in an agricultural area of central Tunisia

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Saharan striped polecats in agricultural landscapes use many burrows (30–35 per season), facilitated by sandy soils. Burrow sharing is rare and mainly occurs between males and females during mating. Habitat use shifts seasonally, reflecting disturbance and soil conditions. Maintaining stable sandy habitats may be critical for persistence.
