Spin‐Split Edge States in Metal‐Supported Graphene Nanoislands Obtained by CVD

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Combining STM measurements and ab‐initio calculations, we show that zig‐zag edges in graphene nanoislands grown on Ni(111) by CVD retrieve their spin‐polarized edge states after intercalation of a few monolayers of Au. ABSTRACT Spin‐split states localized on zigzag edges have been predicted for different free‐standing graphene nanostructures.

Research on Grid-Connected Inverters: Frequency Support Analysis and Improvement in Grid-Forming Strategy

open access: yesKongzhi Yu Xinxi Jishu
Conventional grid-following inverters in renewable-powered systems lack the capability to support grid frequency, posing a risk of frequency collapse in these electric power systems as the penetration of renewable energy generation grows. To mitigate the

Small-Signal Stability of Hybrid Inverters with Grid-Following and Grid-Forming Controls

open access: yesEnergies
In the modern power grid, characterized by the increased penetration of power electronics and extensive utilization of renewable energy, inverter-based power plants play a pivotal role as the principal interface of renewable energy sources (RESs) and the

Stability of Interconnected DC Converters

open access: yes, 2015
This paper addresses stability issues of DC networks with constant power loads (CPL). Common DC networks, such as automotive electrical systems and DC microgrids, typically have a step-up/down converter connected in one side to the main bus and, on the ...

Flexoelectrically Induced Polar Topology in Twisted SrTiO3 Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Twisted SrTiO3 bilayers host polar vortices of flexoelectric origin, revealed through combined experiment and theory. By reconstructing polarization from the toroidal moment of strain gradients, the work establishes a 3D chiral state with broken inversion and mirror symmetries.

Soft Ionic and Electronic Triboelectric Nanogenerators: Toward Attachable and Implantable Biomedical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review provides an overview of triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG)–based biomedical applications by classifying studies into electronic and ionic systems across attachable and implantable platforms. It summarizes key material choices, device structures, and working mechanisms that characterize current TENG‐based research, and outlines six future ...

Parallel Operation of Grid-Forming Power Inverters

open access: yes, 2023
The use of renewable energy sources has been increasing during the last few years, both to obtain a less impacting energy production, and because of the limited fossil resources. Renewable sources are connected to the grid using inverters, which can be controlled in two main modes, grid-following, and grid-forming.

Grid Forming Inverter Power Control Stability Analysis

open access: yesIEEE Access
Stable system operation is being actively attempted by introducing grid-forming inverters (GFMs) which mimic synchronous generators (SGs). Although the introduction of GFMs intended to replace traditional grid-following inverters (GFLs) provides system inertia and contributes significantly to fault current, it paradoxically exhibits unstable output ...

LEAD: Literature Enhanced Ab Initio Discovery of Nitride Dusting Layers for Enhanced Tunnel Magnetoresistance and Lower Resistance Magnetic Tunnel Junctions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs) using MgO tunnel barriers face challenges of high resistance‐area product and low tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR). To discover alternative materials, Literature Enhanced Ab initio Discovery (LEAD) is developed. The LEAD‐predicted materials are theoretically evaluated, showing that MTJs with dusting of ScN or TiN on ...
