Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

An Intensity Measure for Seismic Input Energy Demand of Multi-Degree-of-Freedom Systems [PDF]

open access: yesCivil Engineering Infrastructures Journal, 2018
Nonlinear dynamic analyses are performed to compute the maximum relative input energy per unit mass for 21 multi-degree-of-freedom systems (MDOF) with preselected target fundamental periods of vibration ranging from 0.2 to 4.0 s and 6 target inter-story ...

Improved intensity measures considering soil inelastic properties via multi-regression analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
At certain depths, the elastic properties of the ground are not affected by seismic waves. However, as they reach the surface, the soil density decreases and so does its elastic limit.

Investigating transcription factor dynamics in health and disease using FRAP

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
FRAP analysis of GFP‐tagged transcription factors reveals how molecular mobility and target engagement change in response to drug treatment. By combining live‐cell imaging, quantitative model fitting, and statistical analysis, this approach uncovers transcription factor dynamics linked to disease mechanisms, providing a powerful framework for ...

A Comparison of Ground Motion Intensity Measures for Estimating Collapse

open access: yesEarthquake Spectra
This study examines the use of 15 different intensity measures (IMs) for estimating structural collapse using results from incremental dynamic analysis (IDA). IDA results from 54 numerical models were considered, including (i) 12 reinforced concrete (RC) frame structures, (ii) 16 RC wall–frame structures and (iii) 26 steel buckling‐restrained braced ...

Conserved binding mode but diverse interfaces of MreC‐PBP2 interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of abMreC reveals a conserved two β‐barrel architecture and provides structural insights into its role within the bacterial elongasome. The abMreC–abPBP2 complex model identifies the molecular basis of MreC‐mediated PBP2 recognition, contributing to the regulation of peptidoglycan synthesis.

Variation of Near Fault Ground Motion Intensity Measures Due to Filtering [PDF]

open access: yesAcademic Perspective Procedia, 2020
Ground motions recorded at near fault zones ensures rich low frequency contents, and high velocity pulse signals which may result in large shear force and displacement demands in structural elements. During the recording of these seismic events by accelerometers, low-frequency noise may sometimes accompany the signal.

Discerning protein pools by selective staining with self‐labeling tags

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cell surface proteins have an intra‐ and extracellular pool. Combining genetic fusion to self‐labeling tags that can be addressed with small molecule fluorophores allows separating these pools. We highlight recent developments and techniques for state‐of‐the‐art interrogation of cell surface proteins in the complex tissue setting.

INSIGHTS INTO SPATIALLY CORRELATED GROUND MOTION INTENSITY MEASURES USING ITALIAN EARTHQUAKES [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Modelling the spatial correlation of ground motion intensity measures (IMs) has become a keystone in seismic hazard and risk analysis of portfolios of buildings, spatially distributed infrastructures and earthquake-induced phenomena. The quantification of the seismic performance of such systems over a region requires knowledge of the joint probability ...
