Probabilistic Analysis of Ground Surface Settlement of Excavation Considering Spatial Variable Modified Cam-Clay Model Parameters

open access: yes, 2022
The modified Cam-clay model (MCC model) is capable of representing the consolidation process of the soil under a complex stress path and thus is extensively adopted in the numerical analysis of excavation engineering.

Near‐Field Electrospinning Micro‐Printhead Achieves Precise Control of Nanofiber Deposition

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A micro‐printhead for near‐field electrospinning enables reproducible deposition of polymer nanofibers with diameters below 50 nm. Systematic parameter studies uncover the mechanisms linking operating conditions to fiber morphology, paving the way for precise and low‐cost nanoscale 3D manufacturing. As a high‐resolution, cost‐effective, and rapid ...

Effect of Lubricant Young’s Modulus on Surface Settlement Control During Pipe-Roof Construction Using Pipe-Jacking Method

open access: yesApplied Sciences
During pipe-roof construction using pipe-jacking technology, lubricants are injected into the tail void to reduce pipe–soil friction and minimize soil loss. However, research on ground settlement caused by multiple adjacent pipe jackings remains limited,

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

Prediction of ground surface settlements by analytical and finite element methods

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science
Abstract The soil surrounding the excavation of shallow tunnels may experience destructive deformation near the tunnels. Particularly in densely populated areas where land resources are scarce, ground subsidence caused by tunnel excavation, which in turn affects surrounding structures, deserves more attention.

Experimental Characterization of Mycelium‐Based Composites Under Multiple Loading Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines the mechanical response of mycelium‐based composites under compression, shear, and tension using mechanical testing and imaging methods. The comparison between unpressed and hot‐pressed specimens shows that hot pressing is associated with higher compression and shear stiffnesses.

Settlement early warning method for high speed railway subgrades based on TD Transformer

open access: yesScientific Reports
During high speed railway construction, shield-tunnel undercrossing frequently induces subgrade settlement, which threatens project safety and progress. Existing settlement monitoring methods struggle to provide timely early warnings due to unclear data ...

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Composites of Shellac and Silver Nanowires as Flexible, Biobased, and Corrosion‐Resistant Transparent Conductive Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Shellac, a centuries‐old natural resin, is reimagined as a green material for flexible electronics. When combined with silver nanowires, shellac films deliver transparency, conductivity, and stability against humidity. These results position shellac as a sustainable alternative to synthetic polymers for transparent conductors in next‐generation ...
