Intramolecular Direct Arylation Enables Access to Diverse Photophysical Properties for π‐Expanded 1,4‐Dihydropyrrolo[3,2‐b]pyrroles

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
The unique combination of photophysical properties for π‐expanded 1,4‐dihydropyrrolo[3,2‐b]pyrroles (DHPPs) can be reached via a new synthetic approach. π‐Expanded DHPPs possessing electron‐withdrawing functionalities with emission reaching 700 nm, as well as large double helical systems were prepared and investigated.

Donor‐Strength‐Driven Evolution From Charge‐Transfer to Polymethine Excited States in CurcBF2 Derivatives

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Donor strength governs the excited‐state character and TADF behavior of donor‐acceptor‐donor borondifluoride curcuminoid derivatives. Increasing donor strength drives a transition from charge‐transfer TADF to a zwitterionic polymethine structure with predominantly local excited‐state emission and suppressed TADF.

Dynasting Theory: Lessons in learning grounded theory

open access: yes, 2011
This article captures the key learning lessons gleaned from the author’s experience learning and developing a grounded theory for his doctoral dissertation using the classic methodology as conceived by Barney Glaser. The theory was developed through data

Information Transmission Strategies for Self‐Organized Robotic Aggregation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
In this review, we discuss how information transmission influences the neighbor‐based self‐organized aggregation of swarm robots. We focus specifically on local interactions regarding information transfer and categorize previous studies based on the functions of the information exchanged.

Introduction to grounded theory

open access: yes, 2012
Grounded theory, first developed by Glaser and Strauss in the 1960s, was introduced into nursing education as a distinct research methodology in the 1970s.

The Future of Research in Cognitive Robotics: Foundation Models or Developmental Cognitive Models?

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Research in cognitive robotics founded on principles of developmental psychology and enactive cognitive science would yield what we seek in autonomous robots: the ability to perceive its environment, learn from experience, anticipate the outcome of events, act to pursue goals, and adapt to changing circumstances without resorting to training with ...
