Resistance of grounding systems

Electrical Engineering, 1955
ANALYTICAL expressions for the resistance to infinite ground are found in the technical literature for simple shapes of ground electrodes and wires.1 The present digest aims to establish generally applicable relations for the resistance of more complex configurations such as grids and rodbeds.

Resistance to ground and mesh voltages of ground grids

Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1979
The paper presents the results of a digital analysis of a wide set of square and rectangular grounding grids. The diagrams for grid resistances and mesh voltage factors are displayed appropriate for practical design purposes. Simple approximate formulas for both grid parameters considered are also proposed, providing a fair estimation of the parameters.

Grounding System Parameters and Expression of Ground Resistance

2016
In any electrical circuit network, the circuitry that provides a path between the parts of the circuit and the ground, is known as the grounding system. The grounding system is required for reliable operation of any electrical equipment including generator, transformer, power system tower, and other power system installation under fault conditions.

An Algorithm for Estimating the Grounding Resistance of Complex Grounding Systems Including Contact Resistance

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2015
In cases where the grounding system is buried in soils characterized by poor contact with the electrodes (e.g., karst and sandy terrains), the contact resistance frequently represents a dominant component of the total grounding resistance. In such cases, estimation of the grounding resistance by conventional formulas given in the literature is useless,

Measurement of Impulse Grounding Resistance

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
A kind of measurement method of impulse grounding resistance is proposed. The measurement method of impulse grounding resistance is also analyzed and discussed theoretically. The hardware and software scheme of measurement system is given. The method of simulation of thunder current and transformation calculation is better than the method of work ...

A new method to decrease ground resistances of substation grounding systems in high resistivity regions

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1999
Decreasing the ground resistance of a grounding system in high resistivity soil is often a formidable task. A new method is proposed to decrease ground resistances. This method requires three steps: (1) drilling deep holes in the ground; (2) developing cracks in the soil by means of explosions in the holes; and (3) filling the holes with low ...

Evaluation of ground resistance of a grounding grid of any

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1991
A large number of grounding grids in substations have shapes other than a square or a rectangle, whereas the formulas and graphs for the ground resistance of a grounding grid available in the literature are applicable only to nearly square or rectangular grids.

The Ground Resistance Reduction Effect of o Conductive Expansion Ground Resistance Reducing Material

Journal of the Korean Institute of Illuminating and Electrical Installation Engineers, 2008
The grounding systems provide a low resistance path for fault or normal currents into the earth. The material for reducing ground resistance is buried around the grounding electrode to increase its effective size of the electrode and thus to obtain low ground resistance.

High-Resistance Grounded Power System

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2015
To minimize ground fault during a line-to-ground fault condition, it has been a common practice to use high-resistance grounded (HRG) power systems, both at low voltage and at medium voltage (MV). The criteria for designing HRG systems are very well known to the industry; however, the opinion of industry experts has been divided on limiting the use of ...

Development of low resistivity material for grounding resistance reduction

2010 IEEE International Energy Conference, 2010
Power system is generally protected from lightning strokes by surge arresters which are provided with a low earth resistance connection to enable the large currents encountered to be effectively discharged to the general mass of earth which offers some resistance to the flow of current.
