Design and Prototyping of Topology‐Optimized, Additively Manufactured Lightweight Components for Space Robotic Systems: A Case Study

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The results demonstrate a simulation‐driven workflow that applies LSB topology optimization with additive manufacturing constraints to mission‐specific load cases, integrating European Cooperation for Space Standardization compliant verification and manufacturability to develop structurally efficient rover suspension components.

Subversive: Space as a Movement-Making Tool [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
By exploring placemaking and indigenous memory, this paper argues that space can and should be utilized in movements against oppression. Grassroots resistance is increasingly necessary as the globally marginalized face the constant threats of ...

Hysteresis and Spikes in the Quantum Hall Effect

open access: yes, 1999
We observe sharp peaks and strong hysteresis in the electronic transport of a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) in the region of the integral quantum Hall effect.

Inflammatory Response‐Inspired Thermochromic Shield for Pneumatic Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A thermochromic shield for pneumatic structures is developed, using anhydrous sodium acetate powder and thermochromic pigment‐included solution. In this shield composed of three layers, the exothermic and thermochromic reactions, followed by the mixture of both components, occur promptly with an incident of penetrating damage as a sign of initial ...

PRECURSORY AND COSEISMIC CHANGES IN GROUND RESISTIVITY

open access: yesJournal of Physics of the Earth, 1977
A resistivity variometer of unusually high sensitivity has been in operation at a crustal movement observatory about 60km south of Tokyo since 1968. The variometer records changes in ground resistivity caused by crustal strain in association with tidal loading. When a large earthquake occurs, the variometer often records a step-wise change.

'Calving laws', 'sliding laws' and the stability of tidewater glaciers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A new calving criterion is introduced, which predicts calving where the depth of surface crevasses equals ice height above sea level. Crevasse depth is calculated from strain rates, and terminus position and calving rate are therefore functions of ice ...

Influence of Sample Preparation and Processing Procedures on the Thermal Diffusivity of MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The thermal diffusivity of MgO‐C refractories is highly sensitive to sample preparation and processing procedures. In this article, the effects of coking sequence, machining conditions, structural inhomogeneity, and graphite coating application on measurements using laser flash apparatus are systematically investigated.
