Groundwater storage trends in the Loess Plateau of China estimated from streamflow records [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Hydrology, 2015
The catchments in the Loess Plateau in China have experienced significant land use change since the 1950s with a great number of soil conservation measures such as revegetation being implemented.

Monitoring groundwater storage in a fractured volcanic aquifer system

Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, 2023
The use of groundwater resources is under increasing pressure to meet the demands of the society. Despite this, the understanding of its availability is still limited when compared to other water reserves. The aquifer studied was the volcanic Serra Geral Aquifer System (SASG) located in a humid subtropical region.

Energy Storage at Groundwater Banks

Journal AWWA, 2018
This study investigated adding energy storage (pumped storage) at a groundwater bank, Willow Springs Water Bank, in Southern California. Two different technologies were evaluated. Aquifer pumped hydro (APH) uses reversible pump turbines, the aquifer as the lower storage reservoir, and a surface storage reservoir as the upper reservoir.

The Significance of Groundwater-in-Storage in Arid Environments

2021
Sustainable groundwater use is commonly linked to groundwater recharge: If the long-term average of withdrawals is not higher than the inflows, the groundwater use is considered sustainable. In arid environments, natural inflows are small, but the amount of groundwater-in-storage might be large.
