On the structure of the carbohydrate chains of blood group substances

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1970
Abstract A scheme for the general composition of the carbohydrate chains in blood group substances is suggested. The principal peculiarities of this scheme are the high degree of carbohydrate chain branching and the presence in the region close to the peptide backbone of a fragment built up of only N-acetylhexosamines.

End group and carbohydrate analyses of equine LH

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1972
Summary The terminal amino acid residues and carbohydrate composition of a highly purified equine luteinizing hormone (LH) preparation were determined. The N-terminal amino acids were serine and phenylalanine while the C-termini were determined to be serine and isoleucine. The carbohydrate analyses showed high amounts of sialic acid.

Selective replacement of primary hydroxyl groups in carbohydrates: preparation of some carbohydrate derivatives containing halomethyl groups

Carbohydrate Research, 1978
Abstract Selective halogenation of hydroxymethyl groups in sugars and nucleosides has been achieved by use of triphenylphosphine and carbon tetrahalides (chloride, bromide, or iodide) in pyridine. Methyl α- d -glucopyranoside, 1,2,- O -isopropylidene-α- d -glucofuranose, inosine, and uridine give almost quantitative yields of their primary halomethyl

Reactivity of Sulphonyloxyl Groups with Halides in the Carbohydrate Series

Nature, 1958
IT has recently been shown1 that refluxing 6-O-mesyl-l : 2-3 : 4-di-O-isopropylidene-D-galacto-pyranose2 (i) and 3 : 5-O-benzylidene-6-O-mesyl-l : 2-O-isopropylidene-D-glucofuranose3 (ii) with potassium fluoride in ethanediol, yields the 6-deoxy-6-fluoro-D-galactopyranose and D-glucofuranose derivatives, respectively.

Blood Group Antigens: Blood Group Carbohydrate Antigens

2009
The most popular blood group antigen system, ABO antigens had been known to consist of alpha1,2-fucosylated galactose substituted with alpha1,3-N-acetylgalactosamine (A) or galactose (B). These biochemical results were clearly confirmed and further investigated by the molecular cloning of blood group A synthase cDNA (Yamamoto et al. 1990a, 1990b).

Regioselective O-arylation of 6-hydroxy groups in carbohydrates

Carbohydrate Research
We report an efficient method for regioselective O-arylation of the 6-hydroxy group of carbohydrates. The reaction involves a nucleophilic aromatic substitution reaction (SNAr) using electron-deficient arenes under mild conditions. Regioselectively monoarylated carbohydrate derivative was produced smoothly in the reaction by fine-tuning with the base ...

[Tumor-associated carbohydrate antigens related to blood group carbohydrates].

Gan to kagaku ryoho. Cancer & chemotherapy, 1986
Biochemical studies have revealed the alteration of carbohydrate structures of cell membrane glycolipids, glycoproteins and cell secretory products associated with neoplastic transformation. Immunohistochemical examination of the blood group carbohydrate antigens in various cancer tissues have revealed the following results.
