Quorum sensing in group A Streptococcus [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2014
Quorum sensing (QS) is a widespread phenomenon in the microbial world that has important implications in the coordination of population-wide responses in several bacterial pathogens. In Group A Streptococcus (GAS), many questions surrounding QS systems remain to be solved pertaining to their function and their contribution to the GAS lifestyle in the ...

Group A streptococcus [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Medical Association Journal, 2015
It was gratifying to read that the authors of this commentary[1][1] on group A streptococcus mention the significant rate of colonization versus infection. Surprisingly, this was not mentioned in the related research article.[2][2] This continuing uncertainty, so appropriate in science ...

Group A Streptococcus

open access: yes, 2020
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) or Streptococcus pyogenes, affects an estimated 800 million people each year. Most of the resulting estimated 639,000 annual deaths are related to rheumatic heart disease (RHD) and its complications. Resource-limited areas account for the vast majority of cases, although outbreaks still occur in industrialized countries. GAS

Group A Streptococcus in the Gynecologic Patient

open access: yesInfectious Diseases in Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1997
Over the past few decades, physicians have been reminded of the potential for serious complications arising from group A streptococcal (GAS) infections. These infections continue to pose a serious threat, primarily because the pathophysiology of these infections is complex.

The Serological Grouping of Streptococcus equinus [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of General Microbiology, 1962
SUMMARY: Streptococci isolated from horse faeces and corresponding to the description of Streptococcus equinus Andrewes & Horder (1906) were found to belong to the serological group D. The group D antigen was produced by all the strains examined, but was not always extractable from whole organisms by HCI or formamide; broken organisms, however, always ...

Pathogenesis of Hypervirulent Group A Streptococcus [PDF]

open access: yesJapan Journal of Medicine, 2018
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) causes common pharyngitis and skin infections and occasional severe invasive infections. This review describes the recent progress on the pathogenesis of hypervirulent GAS. CovRS mutations are frequent among invasive GAS isolates and lead to hypervirulence. GAS CovRS mutants can be selected in vivo by neutrophils.

Autophagy vs. Group A Streptococcus [PDF]

open access: yesAutophagy, 2006
We have identified several mammalian protein components of the autophagy pathway. By using them as powerful tools to examine the functional significance of this degradation pathway, we recently showed that autophagy efficiently kills a pathogenic bacterium, Group A Streptococcus, after it invades host cells. However, the autophagosomes induced by these

THE PNEUMONIAS: STREPTOCOCCUS AND PNEUMOCOCCUS GROUPS [PDF]

open access: yesJAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1918
A conference of medical officers from Fort Sam Houston and Camp Travis was held, Jan. 3, 1918, for the purpose of considering the pneumonia situation. Various points in the determination of the causative organism in pneumonia following measles were considered, methods of procedure were suggested, and the laboratory force was organized to take up the ...
