Flutter to tumble transition of buoyant spheres triggered by rotational inertia changes

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Spiral and zigzag trajectories of rising bubbles and falling leaves represent some of the path instabilities commonly observed for objects moving through fluids. Here, Mathai et al.

Modelling airport passenger group dynamics using an agent-based method

open access: yes, 2014
This thesis investigates the influence of passenger group dynamics on passengers' behaviour in an international airport. A simulation model is built to analyse passengers' behaviour during airport departure processes and during an emergency event ...

Representing Small Group Evolution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Understanding the dynamics of network evolution rests in part on the representation chosen to characterize the evolutionary process. We offer a simple, three-parameter representation based on subgraphs that capture three important properties of social ...

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Complex Dynamics of an Adnascent-Type Game Model

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, 2008
The paper presents a nonlinear discrete game model for two oligopolistic firms whose products are adnascent. (In biology, the term adnascent has only one sense, “growing to or on something else,” e.g., “moss is an adnascent plant.” See Webster's Revised ...

The Influence of Group Dynamics on Collaborative Scientific Argumentation.

open access: yes, 2015
Research has addressed what instructional conditions may inhibit or promote scientific argumentation. Little research, however, has paid attention to interpersonal factors that influence collaborative argumentation.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Epigenomic and transcriptomic persistence of heat stress memory in strawberry (Fragaria vesca)

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology
Background In plants, epigenetic stress memory has so far been found to be largely transient. Here, we wanted to assess the heritability of heat stress-induced epigenetic and transcriptomic changes following woodland strawberry (Fragaria vesca ...

Neimark-Sacker Bifurcation in a Discrete-Time Financial System

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, 2010
A discrete-time financial system is proposed by using forward Euler scheme. Based on explicit Neimark-Sacker bifurcation (also called Hopf bifurcation for map) criterion, normal form method and center manifold theory, the system's existence, stability ...

Machine Strategy Evaluation Using Group Model Building in System Dynamics

open access: yes, 2014
Modeling projects, in order to build richer understanding of the dynamics of real-world phenomena in manufacturing systems, benefit from utilizing System dynamics group model building.
