Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Multitask feature selection within structural datasets
Population-based structural health monitoring (PBSHM) systems use data from multiple structures to make inferences of health states. An area of PBSHM that has recently been recognized for potential development is the use of multitask learning (MTL ...

From integration to competition: Britain, Germany and the EU's new group dynamics. EPIN Commentary No. 10, 30 April 2012 [PDF]
Sociological research on group dynamics highlights how easily the EU, originally set up to pursue closer integration, might become an arena for competition for ‘dominance’ between its members.

Selfish pursuits of personal goals in group contexts may conflict with the group goal. Drawing on the shared reality theory and the intersubjective consensus approach to cultural dynamics, however, we propose that commitment to personal goals would be ...

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Background The eukaryotic translation initiation factors (eIF2 and eIF2B) are known to play a regulatory role in translation initiation. Studies have indicated that several missense mutations in both eIF2 and eIF2B subunits can lead to severe ...
