Ring-Expansion of Thioacetal Ring via Bicyclosulfonium Ylide. Effect of Protic Nucleophile on Ylide Intermediate

open access: yes, 2016
The reaction of 2-(3-diazo-2-oxopropane-1-yl)-2-methyldithiolane 9a, 2-(4-diazo-3-oxobutane-2-yl)-2-methyldithiolane 9c, and 2-(3-diazo-2-oxopropane-1-yl)-2-methyl-1,3-dithiane 9b with Rh2(OAc)4 gave three-carbon ring-expansion products dithiocan-2-en-1 ...

Interpreting the effects of DNA polymerase variants at the structural level

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using MAVISp and molecular dynamics simulations, we analyzed over 60 000 missense variants in POLE and POLD1 from ClinVar, COSMIC, cBioPortal, and saturation mutagenesis. Identified mechanistic indicators, including stability, binding, and long‐range, enable structural interpretation, providing ACMG‐like evidence for possible reclassification of VUS ...

Study on Distribution Law of Vertical Earth Pressure on the Top of High-Fill Box Culvert in Gully Terrain Under Expanded Polystyrene Board Unloading

open access: yesApplied Sciences
This study quantifies vertical earth pressure on the roofs of box culverts under high fills in valley terrain using centrifuge model tests with expanded polystyrene (EPS) geofoam for load mitigation.

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

Gain equalization of a six-mode-group ring core multimode EDFA

open access: yes
We propose a 6-mode-group ring core multimode erbium doped fiber amplifier (RC-MMEDFA) capable of providing almost identical gain among the six mode groups within the C band using either core- or cladding-pumped ...

Circulating tumor cell viability during and after radiotherapy mirrors treatment response in cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Radiotherapy (RT) response depends on the DNA repair capacity of tumor and host cells. We show that circulating tumor cell (CTC) counts and apoptosis rates before and after RT predict treatment response and outcome, which can be accessed via easily accessible liquid biopsy approaches. Created in BioRender. Wikman, H.

The Dendrochronological Signal of Pine Trees (Pinus Spp.) in Spain

open access: yes, 1991
Thirty-one old-age pine stands in nine mountainous regions of Spain were studied in order to delineate dendrochronologically uniform areas. A country-wide cross-correlation analysis of the autoregressively standardized site chronologies showed the ...
