Crystal growth and dissolution of gypsum and analogous materials : a multi-scale approach [PDF]

open access: yes
This thesis is concerned with the growth and dissolution of gypsum and analogous crystalline materials, with the aim of understanding the kinetic and mechanistic processes at the mineral-solution interface.

Effects of Potentised Substances on Growth Kinetics of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Schizosaccharomyces pombe

open access: yes, 2006
Background: Homeopathic potencies are used as specific remedies in complementary medicine. Since the mode of action is unknown, the presumed specificity is discussed controversially.

Development of human monoclonal antibodies against TARM1 by yeast display

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human monoclonal antibodies against TARM1 are generated by yeast display‐guided selection. These antibodies bind to soluble and cell‐surface forms of TARM1. Also, these antibodies exhibit agonistic activity in the NFAT‐GFP reporter assay, indicating that TARM1 signaling can be functionally modulated by antibodies and suggesting TARM1 as a potential ...

Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 regulates cell adhesion and membrane protrusive activity of ovarian cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

Diffusion and kinetics in epitaxial graphene growth on SiC

open access: yes, 2017
One of the problems that graphene is facing in electronic applications is its quality, which is still far from the level required to obtain an industrial scale production of reliable nanoscale devices, and it is ultimately related to the growth method ...

Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

An investigation into the use of batch experiments in the determination of the kinetics of ferrous-iron oxidation by Leptospirillum ferrooxidans

open access: yes, 2000
Bibliography: leaves 60-64.The objectives of this research were to investigate the effect of temperature and pH on the bacterial ferrous-iron oxidation by Leptospirillum ferrooxidans in batch culture and compare these results with those previously ...

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

Evaluating CO2 concentration effects on growth kinetics and fatty acid composition in Euglena gracilis

open access: yesApplied Phycology
Industrial development has significantly increased CO2 emissions, from 280 ppm in the pre-industrial era to over 400 ppm today, contributing to the greenhouse effect and climate change.

Stem cell growth and differentiation in Hydra attenuata [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
Interstitial stem cells in Hydra are rapidly proliferating multipotent stem cells which continuously give rise to precursors for nerve and nematocyte differentiation.
