Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Balancing mepiquat chloride and harvest aid applications for optimal cotton yield and defoliation in mechanical harvesting systems

open access: yesIndustrial Crops and Products
Mepiquat chloride (MC) and chemical harvest aids are key tools for managing cotton growth and facilitating mechanical harvesting, yet their combined effects on yield and defoliation efficiency remain underexplored.

In silico evolution of diauxic growth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The glucose effect is a well known phenomenon whereby cells, when presented with two different nutrients, show a diauxic growth pattern, i.e. an episode of exponential growth followed by a lag phase of reduced growth followed by a second phase of ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Pioglitazone inhibits growth of carcinoid cells and promotes TRAIL-induced apoptosis by induction of p21(waf1/cip1) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Background/Aims: We investigated the effect of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPAR-gamma) agonist pioglitazone on growth and TRAIL-induced apoptosis in carcinoid cells.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Nitric Oxide Enhances Drought Tolerance in Gossypium hirsutum L. via S-Nitrosylation of the Plasma Membrane H+-ATPase Isoform GhHA2 and Antioxidant Defense Activation

open access: yesPlants
(1) Background: Nitric oxide (NO) serves as a crucial signaling molecule in plant abiotic stress responses. Although its role in enhancing drought resistance in cotton has been recognized, the specific mechanisms underlying this physiological and ...
