New Biobased Polyester Polyols With Tunable Tg Values From 4‐Vinylguaiacol‐Derived Monomers

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 15, 14 August 2026.
Biobased low‐molecular‐weight polyesters were obtained by ROCOP of guaiacol‐derived epoxides with cyclic anhydrides. Varying the length of the acyl moieties on the epoxides and the cyclic anhydride structures, it is possible to tune the Tg's within an 80 ºC wide temperature range.

Electrochemical Polymerization of Guaiacol in Organic Solvents and Analytical Performance of the Poly (Guaiacol) Modified Electrode Towards Phenol Antioxidants

open access: yesChemosensors
The electrochemical polymerization of guaiacol was studied in different organic solvents. Significant electrode blocking was observed in dichloromethane. Microscopic studies verified the formation of a coherent deposit on the platinum electrode.

Sustainable Photoelectrochemical Direct Lignin Upcycling via Ni‐Co Phthalocyanine Catalysts Integrated With Organic Semiconductors

open access: yesEcoMat, Volume 8, Issue 8, August 2026.
An integrated photoelectrochemical system combining Ni‐Co phthalocyanines with organic semiconductors directly oxidizes kraft lignin with long‐term stability. The system promotes efficient lignin oxidation, enables tunable reactivity between vanillin and vanillic acid, and achieves high photocurrent densities.

Towards Bio‐Based Benzoxazines (2015–2025): A Critical Review of Renewable Building Blocks, Formaldehyde‐Free Aldehydes, and ECHA Hazard Landscape

open access: yesPolymers for Advanced Technologies, Volume 37, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT This review provides a critical overview of research on fully bio‐based benzoxazines over the period 2015–2025. A bibliometric analysis based on the Web of Science database is used to map how the field has evolved and to identify the renewable building blocks that have been most widely adopted.

4-Vinyl Guaiacol: A Key Intermediate for Biobased Polymers

open access: yesMolecules
In order to contribute to the shift from petro-based chemistry to biobased chemistry, necessary to minimize the environmental impacts of the chemical industry, 2-methoxy-4-vinylphenol (4-vinyl guaiacol, 4VG) was used to synthesize a platform of biobased ...

Engineering the substrate scope of the thermostable phenolic acid decarboxylase N31 towards sterically hindered phenolic acids

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Phenolic acid decarboxylases (PADs) convert bio‐based hydroxycinnamic acids into valuable hydroxystyrene monomers under mild reaction conditions. These compounds are in high demand in polymer production, cosmetics, and flavoring. Especially 4‐vinyl syringol, the decarboxylation product from sinapic acid, generates polymers with similar thermal

Effect of Mesopore Structural Parameters in Alumina Supports on Catalytic Hydrodeoxygenation of Guaiacol to Cycloalkanes via Ni-Supported Al2O3 Catalysts

open access: yesEnergies
The elevated oxygen content in lignin-derived oil restricts its direct application as a liquid fuel. Ni-based Al2O3 catalysts are commonly employed to enhance the quality of lignin-derived oil via the hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) process.

Selective catalytic transformation of lignin with guaiacol as the only liquid product

open access: yesChemical Science, 2019
Guaiacol is an important feedstock for producing various high-value chemicals. However, the current production route of guaiacol relies heavily on fossil resources. Using lignin as a cheap and renewable feedstock to selectively produce guaiacol has great
