Hydrogen sulfide repairs testicular damage induced by heat stress in rats

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Heat stress can cause testicular damage and affect fertility. We investigated the potential protective role of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) against heat stress‐induced testicular injury and observed that H2S donor NaHS can effectively restore testicular damage in rats by inhibiting inflammation and oxidative stress. Our results suggest that H2S might be used

Design Guidelines for Landmarks to Support Navigation in Virtual Environments [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the SIGCHI conference on Human factors in computing systems: the CHI is the limit, p.278-285, May 15-20, 1999, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States, 2003
Unfamiliar, large-scale virtual environments are difficult to navigate. This paper presents design guidelines to ease navigation in such virtual environments. The guidelines presented here focus on the design and placement of landmarks in virtual environments.

A non‐fluorescent immunohistochemistry method for measuring autophagy flux using MAP1LC3/LC3 and SQSTM1 as core markers

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We introduce an immunohistochemistry method to measure autophagy flux, highlighting the active degradation and recycling of cellular waste. This cost‐effective approach uses tissue samples to track key markers like LC3 and SQSTM1, revealing how cells maintain health or respond to diseases such as cancer. It bridges the gap between research and clinical

International Opinions on Grading of Urothelial Carcinoma: A Survey Among European Association of Urology and International Society of Urological Pathology Members

open access: yesEuropean Urology Open Science, 2023
Background: Grade of non–muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) is an important prognostic factor for progression. Currently, two World Health Organization (WHO) classification systems (WHO1973, categories: grade 1–3, and WHO2004 categories: papillary ...

GuidelineExplorer -- Navigating through the Forrest of Actionable Guidelines on Node-Link Graph Visualization [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Creating graph visualizations involves many decisions, such as layout, node and edge appearance, and color choices. These decisions are challenging due to the multitude of options available. For instance, graph layout can be force-directed or orthogonal, and edges can be curved, tapered, partially drawn, or animated.

Identifying Condition-Action Statements in Medical Guidelines Using Domain-Independent Features [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
This paper advances the state of the art in text understanding of medical guidelines by releasing two new annotated clinical guidelines datasets, and establishing baselines for using machine learning to extract condition-action pairs. In contrast to prior work that relies on manually created rules, we report experiment with several supervised machine ...

Establishment and biological characterization of radioresistant colorectal cancer cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Under ionizing radiation exposure, radiation‐sensitive cancer cells exhibit oxidative stress and DNA damage, while radiation‐resistant cancer cells exhibit strong antioxidant properties and DNA damage repair. Radiotherapy resistance is a major cause of recurrence and metastasis in colorectal cancer (CRC).
