Seismic evaluation of the southbound Stellenberg Interchange Bridge, B5593, in South Africa

open access: yesStructural Concrete, Volume 27, Issue 5, Page 8435-8452, October 2026.
Abstract This study presents a nonlinear finite element assessment of the seismic vulnerability of Bridge B5593, located in the south‐western region of South Africa. Previous evaluations identified a high likelihood of column failure; however, these were based on linear material models incapable of capturing damage evolution.

Side‐by‐side long‐term performance assessment of GFRP‐ and steel‐reinforced concrete bridge decks

open access: yesStructural Concrete, Volume 27, Issue 5, Page 7968-7992, October 2026.
Abstract The corrosion‐induced deterioration of steel‐reinforced bridge decks is a service life concern, especially in cold regions, where the use of deicing chemicals is common. To address this issue, glass fiber‐reinforced polymer (GFRP) reinforcement has received growing attention, owing to the GFRP's resistance to conventional corrosion.

Reducing Peripheral Intravenous Catheter Use in Adult Acute Care: A Systematic Review

open access: yesEmergency Medicine Australasia, Volume 38, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Peripheral intravenous catheters (PIVCs) are the most frequently inserted invasive device in acute care, yet up to 52% remain unused, exposing patients to avoidable risks and increasing healthcare costs. Despite growing awareness of inappropriate PIVC use, unnecessary insertion persists, driven by cultural and organisational norms and risk ...

The Human Ovary Exhibits Dynamic Molecular Remodeling in the Decades Post‐Menopause

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 10, October 2026.
We analyzed the proteomes of healthy ovaries from 28 postmenopausal women (50–75 years old). We quantified 5812 proteins and observed progressive age‐associated shifts. This fundamentally shifts the notion of the postmenopausal ovary as an inert organ and demonstrates continuous molecular remodeling with relevance to tissue signaling and implications ...
