The perpendicular gyroscope: modal analysis of plate, beam and gyroscope multistructures

open access: yesPhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences
This paper presents a study of the perpendicular gyroscope, which is formed of two orthogonal beams, a flexural plate and a gyroscope. Two sets of chiral-torsional boundary conditions are derived to analytically model the dynamic effects of the gyroscope while taking into account the broken symmetries of the system.

Evaluation of Head Posture in Wheelchair‐Bound Individuals and Its Relation to Malocclusion: A Proof‐of‐Concept Study

open access: yesOrthodontics &Craniofacial Research, Volume 29, Issue 3, Page 569-575, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Malocclusions are significantly more prevalent among individuals with physical and mental disabilities. Head posture, particularly in wheelchair‐bound individuals, may play a role in craniofacial growth and occlusal development, but its specific impact remains poorly understood. Objective To evaluate head posture in wheelchair‐bound

Tissue Engineered Human Elastic Cartilage From Primary Auricular Chondrocytes for Ear Reconstruction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 36, 4 May 2026.
Despite over three decades of research, no tissue‐engineered solution for auricular reconstruction in microtia patients has reached clinical translation. The key challenge lies in generating functional elastic cartilage ex vivo. Here, we integrate synergistic cell‐biomaterial strategies to engineer auricular grafts with mechanical and histological ...

Making Sense of Shoulder Exercise: Measuring the Accuracy of an Artificial Intelligence Model to Classify Shoulder Exercise via Wearable Sensors Among People With and Without Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Sport Science, Volume 26, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to compare the accuracy of machine learning classification for three commonly prescribed shoulder exercises in people with and without rotator cuff tendinopathy. Eighteen participants with rotator cuff tendinopathy (mean age 54.2, SD 13.2; 50% female), followed by eighteen matched controls completed a laboratory‐based shoulder

Real‐Time Collection Methods for Violin Training and Evaluation Data Using Wireless Sensor Networks

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 5, May 2026.
This graphical abstract illustrates the complete framework of real‐time violin training and evaluation based on Wireless Sensor Networks. The process begins with embedding multiple sensors—accelerometers, gyroscopes, pressure sensors, and piezoelectric sensors—on the violin and bow to capture motion, vibration, and force data during performance.

Faraday–Ramsey Rotation in Ultrathin Alkali Vapor Cells as an Analogy to Atomic‐Beam Systems

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, Volume 20, Issue 10, 22 May 2026.
This work demonstrates that ultrathin rubidium vapor cells can emulate atomic‐beam behavior through geometry‐dependent velocity filtering. Employing a spatially separated pump–probe scheme and Faraday–Ramsey rotation, the study reveals coherent atomic dynamics without buffer gas or anti‐relaxation coatings. This approach offers a compact pathway toward

Substrate selectivity of human histidine methyltransferase METTL9

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Methylation of histidine residues in zinc transporters by histidine methyltransferase METTL9 plays an important role in modulating their metal‐binding properties. Here, we report synthetic, enzymatic, and computational studies on human METTL9‐catalyzed Nπ‐methylation of His375 in zinc transporter SLC39A5‐derived peptides in which the histidine

Terrain Classification for Planetary Rovers Using Wireless In‐Wheel Sensor Modules and Machine Learning

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, Volume 43, Issue 3, Page 1884-1904, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Safe and reliable mobility over different kinds of ground is important for planetary rovers on space missions. Since terrain changes might affect the mobility of the rover, energy consumption, and safety, detecting the type of ground in real‐time is vital.
