Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐

Continuity of solutions to the $G$-Laplace equation involving measures

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations, 2019
We establish local continuity of solutions to the $G$-Laplace equation involving measures, i.e., \begin{align*} -\text{div}\ \bigg(\frac{g(|\nabla u|)}{|\nabla u|}\nabla u\bigg)=\mu,\end{align*} where $\mu$ is a nonnegative Radon measure satisfying $\mu (

A new flow chip in combination with multiphoton microscopy as a protocol for longitudinal 3D imaging of tissue calcification under shear stress

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Miniaturized flow chip platform enabling continuous perfusion and longitudinal multiphoton 3D imaging of vascular smooth muscle cell constructs under physiological flow. Brightfield imaging guides region selection, while CellTracker Green and mRuby‐labeled fetuin‐A visualize cells and mineral deposition, respectively. Magnesium supplementation markedly

Doubling measure and regularity to K-quasiminimizers of double-phase energy

open access: yesAdvances in Nonlinear Analysis
We consider an integral functional involving the double-phase operator in a metric measure space equipped with a doubling measure. On the basis of suitable hypotheses on the function governing the phase changes, we design a unifying approach to establish

Long‐Term Follow‐Up of Chemotherapy‐Associated Biological Aging in Women With Early Breast Cancer

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Women threated with adjuvant chemotherapy for early breast cancer have sustained long‐term increase in p16INK4a,, a robust marker of cell senescence, suggesting a chemotherapy‐associated age acceleration. p16INK4a as well as other biomarkers may identify patients at greatest risk for senescence‐related diseases of aging.

Regularity for the solutions of double obstacle problems involving nonlinear elliptic operators in the Heisenberg group

open access: yesLe Matematiche, 2001
We study the Hölder continuity of the homogeneous gradient of the weak solutions of double obstacle problems involving nonlinear elliptic operators in the Heisenberg group.

Remote Assessment of Ataxia Severity in SCA3 Across Multiple Centers and Time Points

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3) is a genetically defined ataxia. The Scale for Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) is a clinician‐reported outcome that measures ataxia severity at a single time point. In its standard application, SARA fails to capture short‐term fluctuations, limiting its sensitivity in trials.

Value of MRI Outcomes for Preventive and Early‐Stage Trials in Spinocerebellar Ataxias 1 and 3

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the value of MRI outcomes as endpoints for preventive and early‐stage trials of two polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Methods A cohort of 100 participants (23 SCA1, 63 SCA3, median Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score = 5, 42% preataxic, and 14 gene‐negative controls) was scanned at 3T up ...

Harnack inequality for a class of functionals with non-standard growth via De Giorgi’s method

open access: yesAdvances in Nonlinear Analysis, 2018
We study the regularity theory of quasi-minimizers of functionals with Lp⁢(⋅)⁢log⁡L{L^{p(\,\cdot\,)}\log L}-growth. In particular, we prove the Harnack inequality and, in addition, the local boundedness and the Hölder continuity of the quasi-minimizers ...

Boundedness and Hölder continuity of weak solutions of the nonlinear boundary-value problem for elliptic equations with general nonstandard growth conditions [PDF]

open access: yesMathematica Bohemica
We study a nonlinear boundary-value problem for elliptic equations with critical growth conditions involving Lebesgue measurable functions. We prove global boundedness and Hölder continuity of weak solutions for this problem.
