Genetic variability of avian influenza virus subtype H5N8 in Egypt in 2017 and 2018

Archives of Virology, 2020
Since the incursion of avian influenza virus subtype H5N8 in Egypt in late 2016, it has spread rapidly, causing severe losses in poultry production. Multiple introductions of different reassorted strains were observed in 2017. In this study, a genetic characterization of the HA gene was carried out with 31 isolates selected from different governorates ...

H5N8 Subtype avian influenza virus isolated from migratory birds emerging in Eastern China possessed a high pathogenicity in mammals

Transboundary and Emerging Diseases, 2022
Novel H5N8 highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (HPAIVs) bearing the clade 2.3.4.4b HA gene have been widely spread through wild migratory birds since 2020. One H5N8 HPAIV (A/Wild bird/Cixi/Cixi02/2020; here after Cixi02) was isolated from migratory birds in Zhejiang Province, Eastern China in 25 November 2020.

Transmission of an H5N8-Subtype Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Virus from Infected Hens to Laid Eggs

Avian Diseases, 2016
We showed here that an H5N8-subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza virus (HPAIV) was transmitted to both the internal contents and shells of eggs laid by white leghorn hens experimentally infected with the virus. Seven of eight HPAIV-infected hens laid eggs until 4 days postinoculation (dpi).

Pathological analysis and genetic characterization of the first outbreak H5N8 subtype avian influenza virus isolated from wild swan in Shandong, China

Transboundary and Emerging Diseases, 2021
In January 2021, an outbreak of H5N8 subtype avian influenza was identified from wild mute swans (Cygnus olor) in an overwintering site located within Yellow River Delta Nature Reserve in Shandong, China, for the first time. We sequenced the hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA) genome segments of the virus, named A/mute swan/Shandong/1/2021 (H5N8),

Risk factors associated with highly pathogenic avian influenza subtype H5N8 outbreaks on broiler duck farms in South Korea

Transboundary and Emerging Diseases, 2018
Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) subtype H5N8 outbreaks occurred in poultry farms in South Korea in 2014 resulting in significant damage to the poultry industry. Between 2014 and 2016, the pandemic disease caused significant economic loss and social disruption.

Efficacy of Two Commercial Inactivated H5 Avian Influenza Vaccines Against Circulating HPAI Subtype H5N8 in Quails, 2018

Alexandria Journal of Veterinary Sciences, 2018
To investigate cross-protective efficacy of commercial inactivated H5 avian influenza vaccines against recent HPAI H5N8 virus in quails. We evaluate the efficacy of two inactivated commercial H5 AI vaccine (imported H5N1 vaccine containing (Re-6 strain) and local H5N1 vaccine), using susceptible quails at one week age. The selection of these bird back

Simultaneous subtyping and pathotyping of the novel reassortant influenza A (H5N8) virus from clinical samples using a diagnostic microarray

BioChip Journal, 2016
Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) viruses cause economic losses in the poultry industry and pose a severe threat to human health. Rapid and accurate diagnostic methods are important because they can help prevent further spread of the virus and reduce the time required for eradication of the virus.

Pathological Evaluation of Natural Cases of a Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Virus, Subtype H5N8, in Broiler Breeders and Commercial Layers in South Korea

Avian Diseases, 2015
Outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) virus, subtype H5N8, were observed in two different flocks of local broiler breeder farms and a commercial layer farm in South Korea. Clinically, the cases were characterized by a gradual increase in mortality, slow transmission, and unrecognizable clinical signs of HPAI.
