Inheritance and enzymatic basis of anthocyanin malonylation in Fragaria × ananassa

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 124, Issue 2, October 2025.
Significance Statement Fruits from various cultivars of the cultivated strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa) exhibit significant variation in the levels of malonylated anthocyanins, which is attributed to the differential expression of malonyltransferase genes, whose products demonstrate acceptor substrate promiscuity.

Complex population genetic structure of the bark beetle predator Thanasimus formicarius (L.) (Coleoptera: Cleridae) across its European range

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, Volume 27, Issue 3, Page 437-451, August 2025.
Abstract Thanasimus formicarius (L.) (Coleoptera: Cleridae) is an important bark beetle predator and can reduce bark beetle population densities of some of the most severe forest pests in Europe. We analysed the population genetics and phylogeography of T.

Modelling and analysis of transformers considering ultra‐wide band frequency‐dependent parameters for high altitude electromagnetic pulse

open access: yesHigh Voltage, Volume 10, Issue 2, Page 374-384, April 2025.
Abstract Transformers are widely distributed and extremely important energy conversion equipment in the power system. However, the high altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP) can induce a steep pulse voltage with a peak value of up to thousands of kilovolts on the overhead line, and the frequency is up to 100 MHz, which is easy to damage the transformer

Achieving snaky [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We prove that the polyomino generally known as snaky is a three-dimensional winner, that it loses on an 8 × 8 board, and that its handicap number is at most ...

On the K-theory of subgroups of virtually connected Lie groups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We prove that for every finitely generated subgroup of a virtually connected Lie group which admits a finite dimensional model for the classifying space for proper actions the assembly map in algebraic K-theory is split injective. We also prove a similar

Modified mean curvature flow of star-shaped hypersurfaces in hyperbolic space

open access: yes, 2010
We define a new version of modified mean curvature flow (MMCF) in hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^{n+1}$, which interestingly turns out to be the natural negative $L^2$-gradient flow of the energy functional defined by De Silva and Spruck in \cite{DS09}. We

Metabolic Recoding of NSUN2‐Mediated m5C Modification Promotes the Progression of Colorectal Cancer via the NSUN2/YBX1/m5C‐ENO1 Positive Feedback Loop

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 11, Issue 28, July 24, 2024.
The RNA modification, 5‐methylcytosine (m5C), has recently gained prominence in regulating gene expression and tumorigenesis. This study identifies NSUN2 and YBX1 as the m5C “writer” and “reader” of ENO1 in colorectal cancer, culminating in a positive feedback loop involving the NSUN2/YBX1/m5C‐ENO1 signaling axis, thereby bridging the connection ...

KMT2D‐mediated H3K4me1 recruits YBX1 to facilitate triple‐negative breast cancer progression through epigenetic activation of c‐Myc

open access: yesClinical and Translational Medicine, Volume 14, Issue 7, July 2024.
YBX1 is a “reader” of KMT2D‐mediated H3K4me1 mark. YBX1 and KMT2D activate the expression of SENP1 and c‐Myc. YBX1 is recruited by H3K4me1 mark to facilitate breast cancer progression. Abstract Background Lysine methyltransferase 2D (KMT2D) mediates mono‐methylation of histone H3 lysine 4 (H3K4me1) in mammals.

Hawaiian Volcanic Ash, an Airborne Fomite for Nontuberculous Mycobacteria

open access: yesGeoHealth, Volume 8, Issue 1, January 2024.
Abstract Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) are environmentally acquired opportunistic pathogens that can cause chronic lung disease. Within the U.S., Hawai'i shows the highest prevalence rates of NTM lung infections. Here, we investigated a potential role for active volcanism at the Kīlauea Volcano located on Hawai'i Island in promoting NTM growth and ...

SUSY Higgs bosons and beyond [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We consider extensions of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) where the extra degrees of freedom interact weakly with the Higgs sector. These models allow to relax the tension between the lower bound on the lightest CP even Higgs mass from ...
