Source height and contact with terrestrial soil drive transplanted epiphyte performance
Journal of Ecology, Volume 111, Issue 11, Page 2388-2400, November 2023., 2023 Tropical vascular epiphytes, such as this orchid Peristeria pendula, performed worse when experimentally transplanted to new substrates in contact with terrestrial soil, versus substrates just above the soil surface. The results are some of the first empirical data supporting the epiphyte enemy escape hypothesis.

Cognitive empathy increases during childhood but with potentially altered abilities during adolescence. Cognitive empathy matures during early adulthood and gradually declines in older age.
