A Pressure-Holding Sampling Device for Macro Organisms in Hadal Trenches

OCEANS 2019 - Marseille, 2019
The deep sea is a huge treasure trove of biological resources, but so far researches on deep-sea organisms is far from enough. This study designed an hadal trenches macro organisms sampling device that can be used at a depth of 11,000 m. This research mainly solves the problem of pressure compensation mechanism during the recovery of the sampler and ...

Winogradskyella ouciana sp. nov., isolated from the hadal seawater of the Mariana Trench

International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2019
A Gram-staining-negative, strictly aerobic, long-rod shaped with no flagellum and yellow-pigmented bacterium designated strain ZXX205T, was isolated from the hadal seawater at the depth of 7500 m in the Mariana Trench, Pacific Ocean. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences placed strain ZXX205T within the genus

Microbial and viral communities of hadal trenches

2020
The hadal zone marks the deepest part of the ocean and is primarily found in clusters of trench ecosystems along tectonic subduction zones. Recent studies indicated that the hadal zone harbors unique microbial communities, which are more active in the benthos and more abundant than in adjacent abyssal settings.

Reprint of A preliminary design of a movable laboratory for hadal trenches

Methods in Oceanography, 2014
Abstract The hadal trenches and the biology and ecology of the organisms that inhabit them remain one of the least understood marine environments. The study of hadal trenches which is often referred to as hadal science, needs special technical equipment support such as landers, unmanned submersibles and manned submersibles.

Tracing Organophosphate Ester Pollutants in Hadal Trenches─Distribution, Possible Origins, and Transport Mechanisms

Environmental Science & Technology
Unraveling the mysterious pathways of pollutants to the deepest oceanic realms holds critical importance for assessing the integrity of remote marine ecosystems. This study tracks the transport of pollutants into the depths of the oceans, a key step in protecting the sanctity of these least explored ecosystems.

Hadal trenches are experimental fields for geological and biological systems

Hadal trench shows integration of landscapes of plate tectonics, geological evolutions of trenches, surface and deep-water circulations, biogeochemical cycles and others.  On these environmental components, we can understand historical backgrounds of benthic organisms.
