Classical Yang-Mills Black hole hair in anti-de Sitter space [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The properties of hairy black holes in Einstein–Yang–Mills (EYM) theory are reviewed, focusing on spherically symmetric solutions. In particular, in asymptotically anti-de Sitter space (adS) stable black hole hair is known to exist for frak su(2) EYM. We

Unraveling LINE‐1 retrotransposition in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel RetroTest method allows the detection of L1 activation in clinical samples with low DNA input, providing global L1 activity and the identification of the L1 source element. We applied RetroTest to a real‐world cohort of HNSCC patients where we reported an early L1 activation, with more than 60% of T1 patients showing L1 activity.

Understanding Pattern Hair Loss—Hair Biology Impacted by Genes, Androgens, Prostaglandins and Epigenetic Factors

open access: yesIndian Journal of Plastic Surgery, 2021
Pattern hair loss (PHL) is the most frequent cause of hair loss in men and women, accounting for 65% of consultations in a hair referral center. PHL is understood to represent a hereditary, age-dependent progressive thinning of the scalp hair, which ...

Genome-wide study of hair colour in UK Biobank explains most of the SNP heritability

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Natural hair colour within European populations is a complex genetic trait. Previous work has established that MC1R variants are the principal genetic cause of red hair colour, but with variable penetrance.

Kerr black holes with scalar hair. [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2014
We present a family of solutions of Einstein's gravity minimally coupled to a complex, massive scalar field, describing asymptotically flat, spinning black holes with scalar hair and a regular horizon.

Valorization of keratin biofibers for removing heavy metals from aqueous solutions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Four common waste keratin biofibers (human hair, dog hair, chicken feathers, and degreased wool) have been used as biosorbents for the removal of heavy metal ions from aqueous solutions. Different parameters of the biosorption processes were optimized in

Tumor clusters with divergent inflammation and human retroelement expression determine the clinical outcome of patients with serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Analysis of treatment‐naïve high‐grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC) and control tissues for ERVs, LINE‐1 (L1), inflammation, and immune checkpoints identified five clusters with diverse patient recurrence‐free survivals. An inflammation score was calculated and correlated with retroelement expression, where one novel cluster (Triple‐I) with high ...

Prevalence and associated factors of intertrigo in aged nursing home residents: a multi-center cross-sectional prevalence study

open access: yesBMC Geriatrics, 2019
Background In geriatric and long-term care settings, intertrigo seems to be common, but generalizable epidemiological estimates are lacking. Aim of this study was to measure the prevalence of intertrigo in aged nursing home residents and to identify ...

Hair-on-End [PDF]

open access: yesThe American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 2013
A 25-year-old man was admitted with a long history of weakness and wasting. In fact, he said he “was born—and fell ill.” He claimed to be still unmarried as a result of his illness. One year earlier he had been admitted with pain in his left hip. Despite several hospital admissions, an explanation for his illness had not been found.

Dilatonic Black Holes in Higher Curvature String Gravity [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
We give analytical arguments and demonstrate numerically the existence of black hole solutions of the $4D$ Effective Superstring Action in the presence of Gauss-Bonnet quadratic curvature terms. The solutions possess non-trivial dilaton hair.
