Hair and Hair Follicles

1992
It is fashionable to refer to man as a naked ape, meaning a hairless ape. This witty designation, however, is completely wrong, since we are certainly not hairless and we are not apes. We are abundantly supplied with hairs, but most of them are barely visible to the naked eye. Quantitatively, we probably have as many hairs in our skin as furry animals.

Microbes stimulate hair follicles

Science Signaling, 2017
Commensal microbes induce hair follicles to release a chemokine that recruits regulatory T cells into neonatal skin.

Hair Follicle Regeneration by Transplantation of a Bioengineered Hair Follicle Germ

2016
Hair follicle morphogenesis is first induced by epithelial-mesenchymal interactions in the developing embryo. In the hair follicle, various stem-cell populations are maintained in specialized niches to promote repetitive hair follicle-morphogenesis, which is observed in the variable lower region of the hair follicle as a postnatal hair cycle.

Integral hair lipid in human hair follicle

Journal of Dermatological Science, 2011
Integral hair lipid (IHL) is bound to the keratinized cell surface to make an environmentally resistant lipid envelope. It is mainly positioned on the hair cuticle and inner root sheath. IHL in the hair follicle may regard as hair barrier to be similar to the epidermal lipid layer functioning as skin barrier.

Hair Follicle Nevus

Pathology Case Reviews, 2007
Congenital nonmelanocytic nevi include epidermal nevi, connective tissue nevi, sebaceous nevi, hair follicle nevi, and proliferations of other dermal and subcutaneous structures including smooth muscle and adipose tissue. Such lesions often involve the skin of the head and neck region and are sometimes associated with syndromes of genodermatosis ...

Regenerating Hair Follicles

Science's STKE, 2007
Compared with newts and salamanders, adult humans (like other mammals) have a limited ability to regenerate tissues lost to injury, and the loss of adult hair follicles--complex structures comprising at least 10 cell types--has been considered permanent. Ito et al. observed structures that resembled early developing

Hair Follicle Tumors

1981
The bewildering variety of hair follicle proliferations and tumors is demonstrated by the complex terminology used to describe them. Hair follicle tumors were originally described and named during the late 19th century. Little more was accomplished until the last 25 years, when newer knowledge of the hair cycle and structure made biochemical and ...

[Hair follicle regeneration].

Nihon rinsho. Japanese journal of clinical medicine, 2008
Hair growth cycle is coordinated with complex processes that are dependent on the interactions of follicular stem cells and dermal papilla cells (DPCs). For the past 10 years, the developmental mechanism of hair follicles has been extensively studied, and spatial and temporal expressions of many molecules are required for the hair morphogenesis.
