Experimental data about mechanical behaviour during compression tests for various matted fibres [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
A specific experimental device has been set up to test compressive mechanical behaviour of an assembly of fibres. Simple compression, as well as cyclic loading experiments and relaxation tests were performed. The experimental set up also allows to record

Polymorphisms of FST gene and their association with wool quality traits in Chinese Merino sheep. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Follistatin (FST) is involved in hair follicle morphogenesis. However, its effects on hair traits are not clear. This study was designed to investigate the effects of FST gene single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) on wool quality traits in Chinese Merino

Gene expression in sheep skin and wool (hair)

open access: yesGenomics, 2004
We sequenced 2939 ESTs from fetal and adult sheep skin. Stages of gestation were picked to coincide with the major events in skin appendage (wool follicle) formation. Clustering analysis generated a nonredundant set of ESTs 2435 strong (83% nonredundant).

Genetic variability of the Brazilian hair sheep breeds [PDF]

open access: yesPesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira, 2005
The objectives of this work were to investigate the genetic structure of the Brazilian hair sheep breeds and to determine the origin of the Santa Inês breed. Molecular similarity was determined using Randomly Amplified Polymorphic DNA - Polymerase Chain Reaction markers in 238 individuals from five naturalized sheep breeds: Santa Inês (48 animals ...

Characterization of the Promoter Regions of Two Sheep Keratin-Associated Protein Genes for Hair Cortex-Specific Expression. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
The keratin-associated proteins (KAPs) are the structural proteins of hair fibers and are thought to play an important role in determining the physical properties of hair fibers.

Predictive biometrics of hair sheep through digital imaging

open access: yesVeterinaria México OA, 2023
Direct collection of biometric measurements (BM) from sheep is an expensive and stressful procedure for animals; instead, indirect and novel methods have recently been used. The objective of this study was to use digital image analysis (DIA) to predict biometric measurements of Pelibuey sheep as a non-invasive approach under on-farm conditions. Withers

Contributions of the hair sheep breed Santa Ines as a maintenance host for Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus (Acari: Ixodidae) in Brazil

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2014
Background Hair sheep breeds are a new, cost-effective option for the diversification of livestock in the Midwest region of Brazil. They are grazed extensively with cattle as well as in isolation in small areas.

Analysis of lncRNAs Expression Profiles in Hair Follicle of Hu Sheep Lambskin

open access: yesAnimals, 2020
Lambskin of the Hu sheep exhibits high economic value due to its water-wave pattern. Wool curvature is the key factor of the pattern types and quality of lambskin, and it is formed by the interaction between dermal papilla cells and hair matrix cells in ...
