Analyzing structural characteristics of object category representations from their semantic-part distributions

open access: yes, 2015
Studies from neuroscience show that part-mapping computations are employed by human visual system in the process of object recognition. In this work, we present an approach for analyzing semantic-part characteristics of object category representations ...

Purification and Calcium Dependence of Transglutaminases from Sheep Hair Follicles [PDF]

open access: yesBioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry, 1997
To study the calcium sensitivity of sheep hair follicle transglutaminase, which was reportedly calcium-independent [H. W. Harding and G.E. Rogers, Biochemistry, 11, 2858-2863 (1972)], the enzyme was purified from a homogenate of merino sheep hair follicles and its calcium dependence was examined.

Comparative Meta‐Analysis of Antimicrobial Peptides in Aquatic and Terrestrial Livestock Species

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
A global meta‐analysis of 58 studies (926 effect sizes and 29 species across five taxa) revealed that dietary antimicrobial peptides generally improve growth performance, blood metabolites, and immune responses. The greatest benefits were observed in omnivorous livestock, such as pigs and chickens. Dose‐duration effects were evident. An optimal outcome

The extension of the taxon cycle model to island plants: insights from the Canarian vascular flora

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Taxon cycle models describe eco‐evolutionary patterns of lineage colonization, diversification, and decline across archipelagos, inferring an important role for competition amongst ecologically similar taxa in driving concurrent niche changes.

Transcriptome meta-analysis reveals the hair genetic rules in six animal breeds and genes associated with wool fineness

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics
Wool plays an irreplaceable role in the lives of livestock and the textile industry. The variety of hair quality and shape leads to the diversity of its functions and applications, and the finer wool has a higher economic value.
