Comparative Meta‐Analysis of Antimicrobial Peptides in Aquatic and Terrestrial Livestock Species
A global meta‐analysis of 58 studies (926 effect sizes and 29 species across five taxa) revealed that dietary antimicrobial peptides generally improve growth performance, blood metabolites, and immune responses. The greatest benefits were observed in omnivorous livestock, such as pigs and chickens. Dose‐duration effects were evident. An optimal outcome

Candidate genes for the development of hair follicles in Hu sheep
The aim of this study was to detect candidate genes for the development of hair follicles in the Hu sheep breed. Seven genes have been detected in large, medium, and small wave follicles of Hu sheep using gene chip technology. The histological features of the follicles of newborn Hu-lambs were combined with fluorescence quantitative PCR technology to ...

Sheep Horn Development Revealed by Multi‐Tissue and Cross‐Species Transcriptomic Analysis
Multi‐tissue and cross‐species transcriptomics with allele‐specific expression show sheep horns are a composite organ integrating epidermal and osteogenic programs. Conserved horn gene modules and cis‐regulatory variation fine‐tune expression networks underlying horn development and size (small scurs vs. large spiral horns).

Prediction of water intake in hair sheep: development of a new model
The objective of this study was to establish equations for the prediction of the water intake (WI) of hair sheep. The data set used was derived from eight studies containing 185 individual observations of hair sheep:120 non-castrated males, 22 castrated ...

Diagnosis of bacteraemia in neonatal foals using 16S rRNA high‐throughput sequencing
Abstract Background Sepsis is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in foals. Early diagnosis can improve outcome but is complicated by non‐specific clinical signs and delayed confirmation of infection via blood culture. Molecular assays represent a rapid and more sensitive alternative.

Representation of grass pea consumption in drought‐stricken sub‐Saharan Africa sustains nutrition, but excess β‐ODAP exposure due to multiple reasons triggers neurolathyrism, a progressive neurotoxic disorder. ABSTRACT Neurolathyrism is a progressive motor neuron disease due to the consumption of Lathyrus sativus (grass pea) over long periods.
