Treatment of Hairy Cell Leukemia-Variant with Cladribine
Leukemia and Lymphoma, 1999Hairy cell leukemia-variant (HCL-V) is an extremely rare chronic B-cell lymphoproliferative disorder clinically and morphologically distinct from classic hairy cell leukemia (HCL). HCL-V is thought to represent a hybrid between prolymphocytic leukemia and HCL, the nucleus more closely resembling a prolymphocyte and the cytoplasm a hairy cell.

Successful treatment of hairy cell leukemia variant with rituximab
Leukemia and Lymphoma, 2005Hairy cell leukemia (HCL) variant is a rare low-grade B-cell disorder affecting the elderly or middle-aged population with features intermediate between those of HCL and prolymphocytic leukemia. Unlike HCL, it is resistant to most conventional treatment.

A 59-year-old man presented with lymphocytosis with huge splenomegaly. The abnormal lymphocytes had a high nucleoplasmxytoplasm ratio, a prominent nucleolus and hairy cytoplasmic projections. Immunophenotyping revealed B-cell leukemia with negative reactions to CD5 and CD25. Cytogenetic study showed 46, XY, der(5)t(5;6)(q35;p21), del(7)(p13)/ 46, idem,

Advances in the Treatment of Hairy Cell Leukemia Variant
Current Treatment Options in Oncology, 2022Hairy cell leukemia variant (HCL-V) is a rare B cell lymphoproliferative disorder with a clinical-pathological distinction from the classic form of hairy cell leukemia (HCL-C). HCL-V is more aggressive in nature, has a higher tendency to be refractory to conventional purine analog pharmacotherapies, and leads to a poorer prognosis.

Blastic Variant of Hairy-Cell Leukemia
American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1987Three patients with hairy-cell leukemia presented with an unusual combination of clinical and cytologic features. Clinical manifestations included constitutional symptoms, progressive left upper abdomen discomfort, and lymphadenopathy. All three had pancytopenia.

T-Lymphocyte Variant of Hairy-Cell Leukemia
Annals of Internal Medicine, 1978Immunohematologic studies on cells from a patient with the clinicopathologic syndrome of hairy-cell leukemia showed that the neoplastic cells had receptors for sheep erythrocytes and therefore had human T-lymphocyte characteristics. The leukemic cells did not have the membrane receptors or immunoglobulin markers of B lymphocytes or monocytes nor did ...

No Loose Ends: A Review of the Pharmacotherapy of Hairy Cell and Hairy Cell Leukemia Variant
Annals of Pharmacotherapy, 2019Objective: To review the literature for the treatment of classical and variant hairy cell leukemia (HCL, HCLv), evaluating efficacy, safety, and supportive care involved in the use of purine analogues (PAs), interferon, BRAF inhibitors, monoclonal antibodies, Bruton’s tyrosine kinase inhibitors, and new immunotoxin, moxetumomab pasudotox-tdfk (MPT). CD27-positive hairy cell leukemia-Japanese variant
Virchows Archiv, 2016We report a very rare case of a 45-year-old Japanese male patient with hairy cell leukemia-Japanese variant (HCL-JV) expressing CD27. The patient showed a high number of abnormal peripheral lymphocytes, thrombocytopenia, and severe splenomegaly but no lymphadenopathy.

MAP2K1 and MAP2K2 genes alterations in hairy cell leukemia and hairy cell leukemia variant.
BloodAbstract Background: Hairy cell leukemia (HCL) is an indolent B-cell neoplasm characterized by the expression of CD20, CD22, CD25, CD11c, CD103, CD123, and annexin A1. Treatment with purine analog monotherapy is highly effective, resulting in durable complete remissions (CR).
