Superhydrophobicity on hairy surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We investigate the wetting properties of surfaces patterned with fine elastic hairs, with an emphasis on identifying superhydrophobic states on hydrophilic hairs. We formulate a two dimensional model of a large drop in contact with a row of equispaced elastic hairs and, by minimising the free energy of the model, identify the stable and metastable ...

Constraints on Hairy Kerr black hole with quasi-periodic oscillations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
The Hairy Kerr black hole is a novel black hole solution that depicts a rotating space-time encompassed by an axisymmetric fluid. It has significant observational importance and is an excellent candidate for an astrophysical black hole. Our study investigates the impact of the hairy charge on the quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) of X-ray binaries in ...

On instabilities of scalar hairy regular compact reflecting stars [PDF]

open access: yesJHEP10(2018)185, 2018
We study the system constructed by charged scalar fields linearly coupled to asymptotically flat horizonless compact reflecting stars. We obtain bounds on the charge of the scalar field, below which the scalar hairy star is expected to suffer from nonlinear instabilities.

Overexpression of the VvSWEET4 Transporter in Grapevine Hairy Roots Increases Sugar Transport and Contents and Enhances Resistance to Pythium irregulare, a Soilborne Pathogen

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2019
Sugar transport and partitioning play key roles in the regulation of plant development and responses to biotic and abiotic factors. During plant/pathogen interactions, there is a competition for sugar that is controlled by membrane transporters and their

3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

Influence of nano‐zinc oxide on tropane alkaloid production, h6h gene transcription and antioxidant enzyme activity in Hyoscyamus reticulatus L. hairy roots

open access: yesEngineering in Life Sciences, 2018
The use of nanotechnology and biotechnology to improve the production of plant bioactive compounds is growing. Hyoscyamus reticulatus L. is a major source of tropane alkaloids with a wide therapeutic use, including treatment of Parkinson's disease and to

Stable, Easy‐to‐Handle, Fully Autologous Electrospun Polymer‐Peptide Skin Equivalent for Severe Burn Injuries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A bioengineered skin equivalent composed of electrospun poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) and the bioactive peptide Fmoc‐FRGD is developed for severe burn treatment. This scaffold promotes full‐thickness skin regeneration by supporting cellular adhesion and integration. In‐vitro and in‐vivo studies show enhanced mechanical stability, accelerated wound closure,

Investigation of hairy root induction in some Salvia L. species

open access: yesیافته‌های نوین در علوم زیستی, 2017
Hairy root induction in plants is the result of the insertion of T-DNA from Agrobacterium rhizogenes into the plant genome. The present study was conducted to investigate the effect of bacterium strain and plant species type on hairy root induction in ...

Laser‐Induced Graphene‐Assisted Patterning and Transfer of Silver Nanowires for Ultra‐Conformal Breathable Epidermal Electrodes in Long‐Term Electrophysiological Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a novel method using laser‐induced graphene (LIG) to enable high‐yield transfer of silver nanowire (AgNW) networks onto ultra‐low modulus, breathable silicone substrates. This approach creates ultra‐conformal epidermal electrodes (≈50 µm) for long‐term, high‐fidelity electrophysiological monitoring, even in challenging conditions ...

An analytic effective model for hairy black holes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Hairy black holes (BHs) have macroscopic degrees of freedom which are not associated with a Gauss law. As such, these degrees of freedom are not manifest as quasi-local quantities computed at the horizon. This suggests conceiving hairy BHs as an interacting system with two components: a "bald" horizon coupled to a "hairy" environment.
