Potential of hairy vetch and crimson clover as cover crops

Cereal research communications, 2008
Hairy vetch (Vicia villosa Roth) and crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum L.) were evaluated as cover crops during two vegetation seasons in the Mediterranean and Continental area of Croatia. Better tolerance to low winter temperatures was observed for crimson clover. Higher plants (10 to 3 1 cm) before winter and in spring (67 to 117 cm) were measured

Incorporation and harvest management of hairy vetch-based green manure influence nitrous oxide emissions

Renewable Agriculture and Food Systems, 2019
In this study, we measured nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from plots of fall-planted hairy vetch (HV, Vicia villosa) grown as a green nitrogen (N) source for following summer forage crabgrass (Digitaria sanguinalis).

Effects of seed priming on growth and antioxidant components of hairy vetch (Vicia villosa) seedlings under chilling stress

Journal of plant nutrition, 2019
Hairy vetch (Vicia villosa) is an important cover crop and green manure in dryland cropping system of Mediterranean regions. A delay in the onset of rainfall during autumn can inhibit hairy vetch seed germination, which exposes its early growth stages to

Effect of Cereal Rye and Hairy Vetch on Pest Suppression and Corn Yield

Communications in Soil Science and Plant Analysis, 2019
A study was conducted in 2016 to determine the effect of cereal rye (Secale cereale) and hairy vetch (Vicia villosa) combination on pest suppression and corn yield in Northwest Missouri. The experiments consisted of six treatments corresponding to cereal

The vernalization of some leguminous plants, especially of hairy vetches

Euphytica, 1956
It has been shown, especially in the species Vicia villosa, that youth development and seed production of plants can be furthered by vernalization. The method led to the selection of plants with an abundant vegetative development and was applied in the seed production of hairy vetches.
