EVALUATION OF BRACHYTHERAPY FACILITY SHIELDING STATUS IN KOREA OBTAINED FROM RADIATION SAFETY REPORTS

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2013
Thirty-eight radiation safety reports for brachytherapy equipment were evaluated to determine the current status of brachytherapy units in Korea and to assess how radiation oncology departments in Korea complete radiation safety reports.

Determination of half value layers of X-ray equipment using computed radiography imaging plates [PDF]

open access: yesPhysica Medica, 2012
A method for determining half value layers (HVLs) of inverter-type X-ray equipment using a computed radiography (CR) systems was developed. This method is similar to the traditional method, where the air kerma (K) is measured using an ionization based dosimeter and increasing aluminum (Al) absorber thickness, but utilized an imaging plate (IP) and the ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Measurement and Research of Intrinsic Filtering of X-Ray Optical Machine

open access: yesJournal of Isotopes, 2021
The thickness of the inherent filter layer is one of the important performance parameters of the X-ray reference radiation device, and it needs to be quantitatively measured. This research is based on the new version of ISO 4037-1 standard specification,

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

The effect of replacing sand by iron slag on physical, mechanical and radiological properties of cement mortar

open access: yesHBRC Journal, 2017
In the present study, the effects of replacing sand by high percentages of basic-oxygen furnace slag on the compressive strength, bulk density and gamma ray radiation shielding properties of mortar have been investigated.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Understanding radiation shielding performance through a comparative study of half value layer in novel and preexisting silicate glasses

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology
This study focuses on evaluating the PbO-SiO2-B2O3-Na2O glasses' radiation shielding ability against various previously tested materials to gain an in-depth understanding of the glass system's attenuation capabilities.
