Halimeda incrassata and Halimeda monile, the two dominant rhipsalian Halimeda, were evaluated behind a bank barrier reef, in a fringing reef lagoon and in an open lagoon. Growth was calculated in number of segments, weight of segments and turnover rate.

Sym-triazine derivative from Halimeda xishaensis

A 1,3,5-sym-triazine derivative, halimedin, was isolated from the alga, Halimeda xishaensis. Its structure was established by spectroscopic methods and X-ray crystallographic diffraction analvsis.

Halimeda bioherms of the northern Great Barrier Reef

The reefless tract directly behind the ribbon reefs on the outer shelf off Cooktown supports a luxuriant growth of Halimeda that, during the Holocene, has developed into bioherms. These mounded biodies of unconsolidated sediment have formed banks that vary in height between 2 and 20 m.
