Effect of Imperceptible Vibratory Noise Applied to Wrist Skin On Fingertip Touch Evoked Potentials – An EEG Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Random vibration applied to skin can change the sense of touch. Specifically, low amplitude white-noise vibration can improve fingertip touch perception.

Physical risk factors for neck pain. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
To identify physical risk factors for neck pain, a systematic review of the literature was carried out. Based on methodological quality and study design, 4 levels of evidence were defined to establish the strength of evidence for the relationship between

Geometry‐Dependent Adhesion in Transparent Monodomain Liquid Crystal Elastomers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid Crystal Elastomers (LCEs) are emerging as exciting pressure‐sensitive adhesives. We examine adhesion in chemically identical elastomer films, exploring the influence of geometry (director orientation) and phase (nematic or isotropic). We demonstrate the potential of these aligned films as transparent, tunable, broad‐temperature‐range smart ...

Hand-arm equal sensation curves for steering wheel rotational vibration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The present study has established equal sensation curves for steering wheel handarm rotational vibration. Psychophysical response tests of 20 participants were performed using the category-ratio Borg CR10 scale procedure.

Lithium Intercalation in the Anisotropic Van Der Waals Semiconductor CrSBr

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We report the lithium intercalation in the layered van der Waals crystal CrSBr, revealing strongly anisotropic ion‐migration dynamics. Optical and electrical characterization of exfoliated CrSBr shows lithium diffusion coefficients that differ by more than an order of magnitude along a‐ and b‐directions, consistent with molecular dynamics simulations ...

Unveiling Multidimensional Physicochemical Design Principles for Tissue Processing Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study establishes a materials‐based design framework for polymer hydrogels in tissue clearing, linking physicochemical properties to performance in tissue processing, labeling, and imaging. By analyzing rheology, swelling, porosity, antibody diffusion, mechanical performance, and thermochemical stability across platforms, this work provides a ...

Effects of Wrist Tendon Vibration on Targeted Upper-Arm Movements in Poststroke Hemiparesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background. Impaired motor control of the upper extremity after stroke may be related to lost sensory, motor, and integrative functions of the brain. Artificial activation of sensory afferents might improve control of movement by adding excitatory drive ...

MAGTWIST: A Magnetically‐Driven Rotary Actuator Using a Traveling‐Wave With Integrated Stiffness Tunability

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
MAGTWIST: A compact magnetic rotary actuator, enabling smooth, stepless rotation, and on‐demand locking. Inspired by peristalsis, a soft polymer belt generates a traveling‐wave, enabling 270° rotation when heated. Cooling stiffens the belt, locking it in position and enabling it to withstand high loads.
