A new algorithm for handwritten character recognition
Proceedings 2001 International Conference on Image Processing (Cat. No.01CH37205), 2002A new algorithm of handwritten character recognition based on feedback theory is proposed. We suggest this new method by adding confidence back-propagation and input modification on the neural network model, thus preprocessing and recognition are integrated closely. Convergence of the algorithm is proved.

Recognition of handwritten cursive Arabic characters
IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, 1994An automatic off-line character recognition system for handwritten cursive Arabic characters is presented. A robust noise-independent algorithm is developed that yields skeletons that reflect the structural relationships of the character components. The character skeleton is converted to a tree structure suitable for recognition.

Handwritten alphanumeric character recognition by the neocognitron
IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks, 1991A pattern recognition system which works with the mechanism of the neocognitron, a neural network model for deformation-invariant visual pattern recognition, is discussed. The neocognition was developed by Fukushima (1980). The system has been trained to recognize 35 handwritten alphanumeric characters.
