Part-Based Recognition of Handwritten Characters

2010 12th International Conference on Frontiers in Handwriting Recognition, 2010
In the part-based recognition method proposed in this paper, a handwritten character image is represented by just a set of local parts. Then, each local part of the input pattern is recognized by a nearest-neighbor classifier. Finally, the category of the input pattern is determined by aggregating the local recognition results. This approach is opposed

Normalization Ensemble for Handwritten Character Recognition

Ninth International Workshop on Frontiers in Handwriting Recognition, 2004
This paper proposes a multiple classifier approach, called normalization ensemble, for handwritten character recognition by combining multiple normalization methods. By varying the coordinate mapping mode, we have devised 14 normalization functions, and switching on/off slant correction results in 28 instantiated classifiers.

Toward robust handwritten character recognition

Pattern Recognition Letters, 1993
Abstract This paper addresses the problem of establishing a robust methodology for handwritten character recognition. First, conventional techniques in Japan are critically surveyed to clarify the state of the art and remaining problems. Second, new and promising approaches are enumerated from the viewpoint of general pattern recognition methodology.

Video-based handwritten character recognition

IEEE International Conference on Acoustics Speech and Signal Processing, 2002
In this paper, we propose a robust stroke-tracing algorithm for a video-based handwritten Chinese character recognition system. By using several error correction techniques, the algorithm works effectively against various shadow and noise problems for video-based stroke-tracing of complex Chinese characters.

Fuzzy Technique Based Recognition of Handwritten Characters

Image and Vision Computing, 2006
The different methods for automatic pattern recognition are motivated by the way in which pattern classes are characterized and defined. In this paper, the handwritten characters (numerals) are preprocessed and segmented into primitives. These primitives are measured and labeled using fuzzy logic.

Online Continues Vietnamese Handwritten Character Recognition Based on Microsoft Handwritten Character Recognition Library

APCCAS 2006 - 2006 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Circuits and Systems, 2006
In recent years, there are many types of equipment using pen-based operations such as Tablet PC, intelligent mobiles and pocket devices such as PDA, Pocket PC etc... In order to input data into computers, pen-based operations are more advantage and friendly than other methods. Therefore, online handwritten character system is the preferred input method

Unconstrained handwritten character recognition using metaclasses of characters

IEEE International Conference on Image Processing 2005, 2005
In this paper we tackle the problem of unconstrained handwritten character recognition using different classification strategies. For such an aim, four multilayer perceptron classifiers (MLP) were built and used into three different classification strategies: combination of two 26-class classifiers; 26-metaclass classifier; 52-class classifier ...

An Experimental Procedure for Handwritten Character Recognition

IEEE Transactions on Computers, 1974
Most of the work done so far on recognition of handwritten script uses curve tracing techniques. The present paper describes a recognition scheme which is independent of the dynamics of writing and is suitable both for on-line and off-line systems. New recognition criteria, namely, the distribution of intensity of marking along and perpendicular to the

HCL2000 - A Large-scale Handwritten Chinese Character Database for Handwritten Character Recognition

2009 10th International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition, 2009
In this paper, we present a large scale off-line handwritten Chinese character database-HCL2000 which will be made public available for the research community. The database contains 3,755 frequently used simplified Chinesecharacters written by 1,000 different subjects.

Stroke Based Handwritten Character Recognition

2012
This work proposes a new stroke based methodology for handwritten character recognition. After the pre-processing, several steps are involved to achieve the recognition. First, the character is segmented into its strokes. Then, we determine the maximum length of the longest horizontal segment that can be inscribed on a stroke.
