Edge‐Channel Aggregation Network and Two‐Stage Fine Tuning Scheme for Handwritten Dongba Character Recognition

open access: yesCAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Handwritten Dongba Character Recognition (HDCR) contains a large number of visually similar characters with subtle and fragile edge cues, posing severe challenges to feature learning. To address this issue, an Edge Channel Aggregation Network (EdgeCANet) model is proposed.

Class Angular Distortion Index for Dimensionality Reduction

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Dimensionality reduction (DR) techniques are often characterized by whether they preserve global, high‐level structures in the data or local, neighborhood structures. This distinction matters in visualization: global methods can obscure clusters while local methods can over‐emphasize them.

Single Line Drawing Generation via Semantics‐Driven Optimization

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
We present a method for automatically generating single‐line drawings in vector format, guided by a text prompt or an input image. Our approach leverages score distillation sampling to optimize the parameters of a uniform rational B‐spline (URBS) curve, ensuring that the drawing consists of a single continuous stroke by design.

Optimal Healthcare Contracts: Theory and Empirical Evidence

open access: yesJournal of Economics &Management Strategy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this paper, we investigate the contracts offered by a large healthcare purchaser to health service providers. Contracts are based on the DRG principle that all hospitalizations in a diagnosis group are reimbursed at the same rate. This principle is relaxed in practice, as in several cases, the amount reimbursed within each DRG exhibits ...

Handwritten Documents Text Line Segmentation based on Information Energy

open access: yesINTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF COMPUTERS COMMUNICATIONS & CONTROL, 2014
The first step in the text recognition process is represented by the text line segmentation procedures. Only after text lines are correctly identified can the process proceed to the recognition of individual characters. This paper proposes a line segmentation algorithm based on the computation of an information content level, called energy, for each ...

Cohort and Case–Control Studies: Strengths, Limitations and Methodological Considerations

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
Population‐based epidemiology and clinical research are complementary by design—and nowhere is that more evident than in cohort studies. By following individuals over time, cohorts quantify disease incidence, elucidate environmental and social determinants and evaluate biomarkers and prognostic outcomes within a single longitudinal framework.
