Hantavirus Cardiopulmonary Syndrome
Seminars in Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, 2007Hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome (HCPS) is caused by infection with multiple types of hantaviruses throughout the Americas. All strains induce a pulmonary capillary leak syndrome with cardiogenic shock in severe cases, and almost all strains have an overall mortality rate of 35%. Some strains in South America are commonly associated with either mild

Hantavirus Cardiopulmonary Syndrome
Clinical Pulmonary Medicine, 2002Hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome is a potentially fatal illness initially described in the Southwestern United States in 1993. Since then, 249 cases have been identified in the United States and the infection has been found in almost all other countries on the American continent.

Landscape, Climate and Hantavirus Cardiopulmonary Syndrome Outbreaks
EcoHealth, 2017We performed a literature review in order to improve our understanding of how landscape and climate drivers affect HCPS outbreaks. Anthropogenic landscape changes such as forest loss, fragmentation and agricultural land uses are related with a boost in hantavirus reservoir species abundance and hantavirus prevalence in tropical areas, increasing HCPS ...

Hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome: immune response and pathogenesis
Microbes and Infection, 2006Hantaviruses are emerging viruses in the Americas that cause cardiopulmonary syndrome with high lethality. The intense cellular immune response to hantavirus alters normal endothelial cell barrier functions and seems to be harmful to the host. On the other hand, the humoral immune response seems to be essential for recovery from infection.

Hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome
2021This chapter talks about hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome (HCPS), which is a viral zoonosis that may result in cardiogenic shock and respiratory failure with significant associated mortality. It discusses hantavirus infection in humans that have been identified throughout much of North, Central, and South America.
