New protocol for colchicine induced efficient doubled haploidy in haploid regenerants of tetraploid and hexaploid wheats at In vitro level

open access: yesCereal research communications, 2019
An investigation to standardize the protocol for in vitro application of colchicine for enhancing the doubled haploid production in wheat was done. Two tetraploid (PDW-314 and A-9-30-1); and two hexaploid (DH-40 and C-306) wheat genotypes were used as ...

Single locus complementary sex determination in Hymenoptera: an "unintelligent" design? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The haplodiploid sex determining mechanism in Hymenoptera (males are haploid, females are diploid) has played an important role in the evolution of this insect order.

Correcting for Replicated Genotypes May Introduce More Problems Than it Solves

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 25, Issue 3, April 2025.
ABSTRACT Across the tree of life, many organisms are able to reproduce clonally, via vegetative spread, budding or parthenogenesis. In population genetic analyses of clonally reproducing organisms, it is common practice to retain only a single representative per multilocus genotype.

It‘s Complicated: Why Are There So Few Commercially Successful Crop Varieties Engineered for Disease Resistance?

open access: yesMolecular Plant Pathology, Volume 26, Issue 3, March 2025.
ABSTRACT It is more than 40 years since the era of transgenic plants began and more than 30 years after the cloning of the first plant disease resistance genes. Despite extensive progress in our mechanistic understanding and despite considerable sustained efforts in the commercial, nonprofit, academic and governmental sectors, the prospect of ...

Cytological and molecular characterization of three gametoclones of Citrus clementina [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background Three gametoclonal plants of Citrus clementina Hort. ex Tan., cv. Nules, designated ESP, FRA, and ITA (derived from three labs in Spain, France, and Italy, respectively), were selected for cytological and molecular characterization in order

Haploidy in Peach1

open access: yesHortScience, 1974
Abstract Twenty-four haploids of peach [Prunus persica (L.) Batsch] were obtained by visual selection in seedling populations growing in the greenhouse. Frequencies varied markedly between some progenies. Meiosis in pollen-mother cells was extremely irregular. Ten haploids diploidized by colchicine treatment were fertile and resembled natural diploids.

New frontiers in chromosome elimination-mediated doubled haploidy breeding: Focus on speed breeding in bread and durum wheat

open access: yesIndian Journal of Genetics and Plant Breeding (The), 2019
Rectovaginal lacerations in the mare occur during parturition when the foal’s limb(s) or head are forced caudal and dorsal. The injury is seen predominantly in primiparous mares and is usually due to violent expulsive efforts by the mare (Colbern et al.,

Derivation of Haploid Trophoblast Stem Cells via Conversion In Vitro

open access: yesiScience, 2019
Summary: Owing to their single genome, haploid cells are powerful to uncover unknown genes by performing genetic screening in mammals. However, no haploid cell line from an extraembryonic lineage has been achieved yet, which limits the application of ...

Effect of gamma ray irradiation doses on pollen viability and in-vitro germination in Citrus

open access: yesThe Indian Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 2016
Induction of haploid plants in fruit crops through gamma irradiated pollen technique is of paramount importance in modern fruit breeding to reduce the breeding cycle.
