A haptic device wearable on a human arm
IEEE Conference on Robotics, Automation and Mechatronics, 2004., 2005In this paper, a novel 7-DOF haptic device wearable on a human arm is proposed. Different from the conventional haptic devices which employ only mechanical components, the proposed wearable haptic device is formed by both mechanical links/joints and human bones/joints.

Design of unit for haptic device on foot
2012 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Biomimetics (ROBIO), 2012Walking and traveling are popular recreation activities for the elderly in Japan. These activities are also mild exercises and have good effects for their health. However, people suffering from physical and / or cognitive disorders have a difficulty in going out and walking in real environments.

The dynamics and control of a haptic interface device
IEEE Transactions on Robotics and Automation, 1994Haptic interface devices are machines that are controlled by the human arm contact forces. These devices are necessary elements of virtual reality machines. These devices may be programmed to give the human arm the sensation of forces associated with various arbitrary maneuvers. As examples, these devices can give the human the sensation that he/she is

Passivity control of a passive haptic device
2004 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS) (IEEE Cat. No.04CH37566), 2005In this paper, we propose an energy-based stability control of a passive haptic device equipped with passive actuators such as an electric brake. Unstable behavior is observed even in the passive haptic system due to time delay mainly arising from the slow update rate of the virtual environment.

Development of the Haptic Device for a Hepatectomy Simulator
2015In this study, a system for a hepatectomy simulator was developed. The system consists of 2 haptic devices, a visual display, a depth sensor , and a control PC. One of the haptic devices is used for left hand. A silicon rubber mock-up of the lobe of a liver is attached to the end effector of the haptic device.

A Method of Image Edition with Haptic Devices
2009 International Conference on Complex, Intelligent and Software Intensive Systems, 2009Advanced force feedback devices can realize tactile sensation with the current virtual reality techniques. These devices are expected to bring new type of interactions between human and computers. In this paper, an advanced image edition tool with these force feedback interfaces is proposed.

A Hybrid Actuation Approach for Haptic Devices
Second Joint EuroHaptics Conference and Symposium on Haptic Interfaces for Virtual Environment and Teleoperator Systems (WHC'07), 2007This paper presents a new actuation approach which combines the use of brakes, springs and mini motors to produce a safer and more energy efficient way to drive haptic devices. The applications which can greatly benefit from this new technology include force-feedback interfaces which operate medical robots, an area where safety and reliability are of ...

FPGA-based Controller for Haptic Devices
2006 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems, 2006Teleoperation with force feedback is a complex task and a good haptic device is a key element. In this paper we present an innovative hardware/software structure used to control an actuated 6 dof joystick in a teleoperation task. To increase speed and reliability, parts of the kinematic calculation are embedded into the joystick controller.

The Snaptic Paddle: A Modular Haptic Device
First Joint Eurohaptics Conference and Symposium on Haptic Interfaces for Virtual Environment and Teleoperator Systems, 2005The haptic paddle was developed previously as an inexpensive haptic device for educational use, and has been applied to course topics such as dynamic systems and introductory controls. However, it has only a single degree of freedom, limiting it to very simple modeling and simulation exercises. Through modifications to the original haptic paddle design,

Toward a seven axis haptic device
Proceedings 1995 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems. Human Robot Interaction and Cooperative Robots, 2002The development of a haptic interface to address the tasks performed by people with small tools is described. Design issues are considered from the requirements, in terms of actuation, kinematics, motion transmission, sensing, and concept design.
