A Hybrid Actuation Approach for Haptic Devices

Second Joint EuroHaptics Conference and Symposium on Haptic Interfaces for Virtual Environment and Teleoperator Systems (WHC'07), 2007
This paper presents a new actuation approach which combines the use of brakes, springs and mini motors to produce a safer and more energy efficient way to drive haptic devices. The applications which can greatly benefit from this new technology include force-feedback interfaces which operate medical robots, an area where safety and reliability are of ...

FPGA-based Controller for Haptic Devices

2006 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems, 2006
Teleoperation with force feedback is a complex task and a good haptic device is a key element. In this paper we present an innovative hardware/software structure used to control an actuated 6 dof joystick in a teleoperation task. To increase speed and reliability, parts of the kinematic calculation are embedded into the joystick controller.

The Snaptic Paddle: A Modular Haptic Device

First Joint Eurohaptics Conference and Symposium on Haptic Interfaces for Virtual Environment and Teleoperator Systems, 2005
The haptic paddle was developed previously as an inexpensive haptic device for educational use, and has been applied to course topics such as dynamic systems and introductory controls. However, it has only a single degree of freedom, limiting it to very simple modeling and simulation exercises. Through modifications to the original haptic paddle design,

Development of an Economical Haptic Stimulus Device

2011
Human perception of haptic information is often complex and requires devices that are expensive and difficult to operate. We see increasing attention being given to finding simpler motions in haptic research to represent more complex haptic perception on the surface of the skin. Our research has indicated that lateral motions in multiple directions may

Haptic Devices Evaluation for Industrial Use.

2014
The current study concerns the Assembly/Disassembly (A/D) process. Despite the latest improvements, the creationof a fully realistic VE is still challenging because of the complexity of the physical processes involved and thecurrent limitations of the available VR technology.

Geodesic Haptic Device for Surface Rendering.

2009
This paper describes a haptic device whose aim is to render the contact with a continuous and developable surface by means of the representation of a geodesic trajectory. Some preliminary tests conducted with industrial designers have showed that the trajectories performed while exploring the surface of a style product, for a qualitative evaluation ...
