Understanding the Hard/Soft Distinction in International Law

open access: yes, 2015
A common characterization employed in contemporary international law is that between hard and soft law. A determination that an instrument falls into either category carries with it a series of implications, including that pertaining to the legal ...

Toward Knowledge‐Based Workflows: A Semantic Approach to Atomistic Simulations for Mechanical and Thermodynamic Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Knowledge‐based atomistic workflows are presented for mechanical and thermodynamic properties. By coupling modular simulations with ontology‐aligned metadata and provenance, Fe case studies on elastic behavior, defects, thermal properties, and Hall–Petch strengthening reveal how FAIR, queryable, and reusable simulation data can be generated. Mechanical

Dining Out in the Eleventh Circuit: "A La Carte" and "All-or-Nothing" Approaches to Choice of Law

open access: yes, 2020
Whether you're thinking of judicial opinions or you're thinking of legal scholarship, it's hard to deny the depth of disagreement that exists over how to select the law applicable to multistate cases. In some states, judges decide choice of law questions

Electrochemical Behavior of Flame‐Sprayed Sc‐Doped AlCoCrFeMo High‐Entropy Alloy Coatings in 3.5% Sodium Chloride Solution

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Scandium (Sc)‐doped AlCoCrFeMo HEA coatings are fabricated via flame spraying with 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5 wt% Sc additions. Among these, the HEA‐Sc0.3 coating exhibits the highest corrosion resistance, indicated by a more positive corrosion potential and lower current density.

SOFT LAW IN EUROPEAN UNION GOVERNANCE: BETWEEN ADMINISTRATIVE EFFICIENCY AND LEGAL CERTAINTY [PDF]

open access: yesLegea și Viața
Using the European Commission’s Code of Good Governance (CCG) as a case study, the article shows that the chief advantage of soft law lies in its flexibility and its ability to react quickly to political, social and economic change. Although not directly

Molecular Dynamics Studies of Shape Memory Polymers: From Bead–Spring Models to Atomistic Simulations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Coarse‐grained (left) and atomistic (right) models of the shape memory polymer ESTANE ETE 75DT3 are shown schematically. The two representations bridge molecular detail and mesoscopic description. Both models capture shape memory behavior, linking segmental mobility and conformational relaxation of anisotropic chains to macroscopic recovery, and ...

The ‘Polluter Pays Principle’: environmental liabilities and scientific evidence under the Italian law system

open access: yesAcque Sotterranee, 2019
The “Polluter Pays” Principle is a cornerstone in environmental law. The Italian law system, like other European ones, show that this principle, although being easy to understand, is hard to be implemented.
