MODERN BIOLOGICAL PRODUCTS FOR HARD-SEEDED CROPS
Scientific Life, 2021One of the significant factors of increasing the yield of agricultural crops is the use of fertilizers and pesticides. However, the use of chemicals causes environmental pollution and is accompanied by significant investments of material and energy resources. In addition, there is a decrease in humus in the soil.

Hard Seed and Field Establishment of Irrigated Alfalfa
Crop Science, 1993Alfalfa (Medicago saliva L.) seed lots contain a proportion of hard, water‐impermeable seed that does not germinate readily during a 7‐ d germination test. Opinions differ as to whether or not hard seeds make a delayed contribution to an alfalfa stand.

The effect of seed hardness on husking time in finches
Animal Biology, 2004Abstract Small granivorous birds crack and remove the seed coat before they swallow the kernel. It is generally assumed that husking time is related to seed hardness and bite force, although direct experimental evidence is scarce. In this study we decreased experimentally the hardness of a single seed species, so that all the seed characters

Field Nursery for Hard Clam Seed
2003This study reports the results of four years of experiments to determine if New Jersey hard clam aquaculturists could economically provide their own plantable seed by using a field nursery. The general results were that when all factors are accounted for, using the field nursery can save on the cost of field plantable seed.

Analysis of Carbohydrates Conferring Hardness on Seeds
1989In relation to seeds the term “hardness” has two distinct connotations. It may refer to the physical resistance of a seed to mechanical deformation, or it may be used in the more specialized context of a seed which, in contrast to other seeds in a population, will not imbibe when exposed to water. Hardness of the latter type is akin to dormancy in that

Screening Subterranean Clover for Persistent Hard Seed
Crop Science, 1988Maintenance of hard seed through the summer is essential for reseeding of cool‐season annual clovers. ‘Mt. Barker’, Mississippi Ecotype, and 17 experimental lines of subterranean clover (Trifolium subterraneum L.) were evaluated for hard seed production and persistence over 3 yr. Initial hard seed level was measured 10 d after harvest.

SEED HARDENESS IN GRAIN LEGUMES
2011SUMMARYImpermeahle testae or hard seededness are regarded as one ofthe leading causes of seed dormancy in grain legumes. Genetic and environmentfators affect the degree of hard seededness which is a problem in wild species andonly tasts for about three weeks in cultivated species.

The genetics of hard seed coat in the genus Lens
Euphytica, 1985Seeds of the cultivated lentil are capable of germinating shortly after maturation. The seed dormancy of wild lentil species is due to a hard seed coat. In crosses between the cultivated species L. culinaris and its wild progenitor L. orientalis the hard seed coat of the wild species was controlled by a single recessive gene in homozygous condition. In

Sowing the Seeds of Diplomacy on Hard American Ground
The Hague Journal of Diplomacy, 2017Diplomacy is a neglected field in American higher education. Both practitioners and academics have repeatedly cast the seeds to grow the discipline in the United States, but with limited germination. Although diplomacy curricula are rare, courses do exist.
